The division remains committed to executing the UNICEF Strategic Plan and the Global Communication and Advocacy Strategy. Concurrently, UNICEF is developing a new Global Communication and Advocacy Strategy to align with the updated UNICEF Strategic Plan, 2022–2025.In line with its mission to present a consistent and coherent organizational image, UNICEF has embarked on creating a Global Brand Strategy. This strategy will serve as a foundational framework for communication efforts, ensuring that expressions of the organization’s identity, principles and values are harmonized across all communication channels.Within PFP, the Media and PR Services for Fundraising team in the Marketing and PR Services section seeks the expertise of a Communication Specialist (B2B). This specialist will review and update communication and marketing initiatives to align with strategic plans, prioritize private sector fundraising markets, and offer guidance on brand development and public relations. The person will also facilitate workshops and provide support on business strategies to enhance brand positioning and fundraising.For every child, a ChampionThe Communication Specialist (B2B) will ensure that UNICEF’s communication and marketing initiatives are strategically aligned with the Global Communication and Advocacy Strategy, the Impact Plan, 2022–2025, and the Brand Strategy. The role is to strengthen UNICEF’s brand positioning, public relations and fundraising efforts by designing and implementing a robust B2B media and PR strategy to position UNICEF as a partner of choice for the private sector.How can you make a difference?The Communication Specialist (B2B) will lead on the following tasks:
  • Develops measurable global communication and marketing strategies for UNICEF’s significant high-value partnerships to deliver joint objectives. Helps manage the media and communication/marketing/PR expectations of partnerships.
  • Build a drumbeat of media coverage through an always-on B2B media relations and executive visibility news engine – shaping a proactive narrative whilst taking advantage of reactive opportunities through newsjacking, pitching and timely outreach to position UNICEF as a partner of choice.
  • Engage and support National Committees, country offices, and partners on B2B media and PR planning and implementation for multi-country partnerships to generate income and influence.
  • Develop communication packages, e.g., campaign activation assets, press releases, op-eds, key messages, Q&A documents, and talking points for the senior leadership and global partnerships, in close collaboration with communication focal points in relevant National Committees and regional and country offices.
  • Organize and facilitate communication workshops/capacity-building webinars for stakeholders to develop partnership communication frameworks and plans.
  • Manage reputational risks relating to partnerships through communication strategies.
  • Oversee the implementation of agreed communication plans and activities across National Committees, ensuring global, regional and national office-level alignment between UNICEF and partners.
  • Participate in all high-value meetings to facilitate general alignment across work streams and offices at the global, regional and national levels.
  • Develop and implement a thought leadership strategy for PFP senior leaders that is aligned with the goals of the high-value marketing project.
Deliverables
  • Under the supervision of the Communication Specialist (Media and PR), the role will entail completing the following deliverables.
  • Prioritization Plan for Private Sector Fundraising: A clear and well-defined plan for prioritizing private sector fundraising markets, including strategies for brand positioning and public relations to maximize impact and outreach.
  • Recommendations for enhanced strategies: Detailed recommendations and proposed developments on public relations, crisis management, communication, brand, and digital strategies to strengthen UNICEF’s overall outreach and engagement.
  • Insights and recommendations for partnerships and fundraising: Participation in partnerships, fundraising, and brand discussions, providing valuable insights and making recommendations on potential opportunities and priorities for UNICEF.
  • Added value strategies in UNICEF partnerships: Identification of ways to add value in UNICEF partnerships to enhance the organization’s image and promote collaborative efforts.
  • Definition of target audiences and actionable insights: Support in defining target audiences and gathering actionable insights on markets at a global level to better tailor communication and marketing initiatives.
  • Use of UNICEF global campaigns: Guidance on harnessing UNICEF’s global campaigns to strengthen brand positioning and foster trust in target audiences.
  • Public relations and brand strategies for key audiences: Support and recommendations for developing public relations and brand strategies aimed at engaging other key UNICEF audiences and stakeholders.
  • Feasibility studies and new business strategies: Assistance in conducting feasibility studies and proposing new business strategies that directly or indirectly benefit UNICEF’s brand and fundraising efforts.
  • Facilitation of workshops and sessions: Conducting sessions at brand and communication workshops and other relevant workshops to facilitate knowledge sharing and capacity building within the organization

To qualify as a champion for every child you will have…Education
  • An advanced university degree in one of the following fields is required: a field related to communication, journalism, writing, or photography, or in international relations, public relations, social/human sciences, and/or another related field equivalent to specialized training in original writing, proofreading, fact-checking, and copy editing and editing.
  • Alternative, a first-level University Degree in a relevant field combined with two additional years of qualifying professional experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
Experience
  • A minimum of five years of relevant professional work experience in a media or PR role is required.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing B2B communication strategies. or marketing strategies are required.
  • Proven writing, rewriting, research, and text editing skills, particularly in writing for different audiences are required.
  • Ability to handle multiple assignments with competing deadlines.
  • Experience in coordinating communication activities for high-level events and forums is an asset.
  • Experience in working and managing PR agencies is an asset.
  • Experience in developing a media and PR strategy to drive and deepen engagement with public or private sector engagement partners is an asset.
  • Experience in building strong relationships with traditional and social media entities and using media relations and channels to engage different audiences is required.
Language Requirement
  • Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish) or a local language is an asset.
