Director of Operations / Managing Director Switzerland - Weller - Yverdon-les-Bains (Bevaix, Switzerland)


Weller is the global market leader in Soldering and Precision tools. For our Precision Tools, we are looking for a Director of Operations / Managing Director responsible for overseeing the overall operations and driving continuous improvement initiatives to optimize efficiency, productivity, and quality. Your primary focus will be on implementing lean principles and automating production to streamline processes and enhance productivity. Additionally, your financial acumen will be essential in managing budgets, identifying cost-saving opportunities, and ensuring the plant’s financial success. This role requires strong leadership skills, in-depth knowledge of lean manufacturing principles, and expertise in automation technologies. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, manage resources, and implement strategies to achieve operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

Health, Safety, and Compliance:
  • Enforce strict adherence to health and safety protocols to create a safe working environment.
  • Ensure the plant complies with all relevant regulations and industry standards.
  • Implement best practices to minimize environmental impact and promote sustainability.

Strategic Planning:
  • Develop and execute the plant’s operations strategy aligned with organizational goals and objectives.
  • Identify areas for improvement and implement lean manufacturing practices & automation technologies.
  • Drive cost reduction initiatives while ensuring quality standards and customer satisfaction.

Operational Management:
  • Oversee daily plant operations, production planning, scheduling, inventory management, and logistics.
  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and implement corrective actions to meet or exceed targets.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations, quality standards, and environmental policies.

Lean Manufacturing and Automation:
  • Champion the implementation of lean principles, such as waste reduction, value stream mapping, and standardized work.
  • Identify opportunities for automation and robotics to streamline processes, improve productivity, and reduce cycle times.
  • Collaborate with engineering and technology teams to design and implement automated systems and equipment.

Team Leadership and Development:
  • Build and lead a high-performing operations team, providing guidance, coaching, and development opportunities.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence throughout the plant.
  • Promote collaboration and effective communication across departments to ensure alignment and achievement of goals.

Supply Chain and Vendor Management:
  • Collaborate with procurement and supply chain teams to optimize inventory levels, supplier relationships, and material flow.

General and Financial Management:
  • Develop and manage the plant’s budget, ensuring cost-effective operations and resource allocation.
  • Use financial data and analysis to identify areas for cost reduction and efficiency improvement.
  • Collaborate with the finance team and auditors for financial reporting.
  • Acting as legal representative of the company in all its aspects


Qualifications and Skills:



  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Operations Management, or a related field. Advanced degree is a plus.
  • Proven experience (10+ years) in operations and financial management within a manufacturing environment, preferably with expertise in lean manufacturing and automation.
  • Strong knowledge of lean principles, such as Six Sigma, Kaizen, 5S, value stream mapping, and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Experience implementing automation technologies, including robotics, process control systems.
  • Excellent leadership and people management skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive operational excellence, optimize processes, and achieve results.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a data-driven approach to decision-making.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with regulatory compliance requirements and industry best practices in manufacturing operations.
  • Knowledge of relevant health, safety, and environmental regulations in the manufacturing industry.
