Job Description (Roles and Responsibilities)

The United Kingdom Mission to the United Nations (UN) in Geneva represents the interests and policies of the UK at the UN. We are looking for a Residence Officerto provide support to HM Ambassador’s Residence Manager to maintain an excellent level of service at the Residence, assisting with the day-to-day service and requirements, and especially when preparing and helping with official visits and events. To be an excellent team player and help the other members of the Residence team, as and when required.


Roles and Responsibilities:

  • To ensure an exceptional appearance of the Residence, with particular attention to the fresh flower arranging. Creating, sourcing and managing the upkeep of the flower arrangements as needed throughout the Residence, including at official lunches, dinners, receptions;
  • Supporting the Residence team for official events and visits. This will include helping with the preparation and cooking of the food, professional serving of the foods, and general housekeeping duties;
  • To have solid budget management skills, e.g.: ensuring value for money when sourcing the fresh flowers;
  • Able to work flexibly. Assist with planning for visits and events, and flexibility to help out at busier times.

Essential qualifications, skills and experience
  • Elementary written and spoken English (A2 level according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages);
  • Fluent written and spoken French (C1 level according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages);
  • Flower arranging experience;
  • Previous hospitality experience.

This is a permanent part-time contract, (20 hours) per week, at S3 level.


Applicants that have the right to live and work in Geneva and don’t require a visa sponsorship are: Nationals from United Kingdom, European Union and EFTA, along with Nationals of: Brunei Darussalam, Japan, Malaysia, New Zealand, Principality of Andorra, Principality of Monaco, San Marino, Singapore and Vatican – these applicants are eligible to live and work in Switzerland as long as holding a full passport valid for at least 12 months.


All other applicants need to have permission to live and work in Switzerland.


Visa/work permit requirements: Candidates must currently hold the independent right to live and work in Switzerland and be prepared to ensure that right remains throughout the scope of the contract.
