Overview (Scope of Role)
The Global Senior Category Manager – Global Butadiene Category Manager and European Styrene Category Manager leads the global Butadiene and Styrene sourcing strategy for Trinseo. He (she) is responsible for the oversight and improvement of the logistics and supply chain for Styrene and Butadiene monomer in Europe. This includes managing spend while navigating successfully through the challenging market environment. The person will have a key role and lead the recycled/bio supply markets activities for the respective products.
This position will be located in Horgen, Switzerland and reports to the Global Commercial and Procurement Director.
Responsibilities
  • Manage supply markets for the Styrene business, network with traders (including conference attendance) to enable Trinseo to navigate through challenges in the market supply; maintain forecasts for business profitability in the European energy market; rebuild and refine the logistics and supply chain of Styrene in Europe.
  • Manage the Butadiene markets in Europe, build relationships and work with supply base to meet the demand; lead the global Butadiene strategy for Trinseo for the next 5 to 10 years; be the point of contact for Trinseo in Butadiene markets; coordinate global Butadiene calls and publish updates on the markets; network with traders (including conference attendance); maintain forecasts for business profitability.
  • Lead Butadiene sourcing strategy globally by being Trinseo expert advising and strategizing.
  • Lead Trinseo’s sustainability contracts for Styrene and Butadiene supply; work with the global network to manage recycled streams and pricing; monitor market progress on Sustainability options; report progress and provide Bio and Circularity information on the market with the support of the Procurement Sustainability leads and Sustainability team.
  • Establish strong connections with Styrene and Butadiene European and global markets to be able to swap, sell, spot buy when needed.
  • Maintain strategy and risk work on the feedstocks into European crackers and cracker vulnerability; build this into our risk program, our strategy playbooks and our supplier relationship management.
  • Support the global Logistics and Supply Chain teams to resolve logistical, timing and swap needs for the key raw materials.
Qualifications
  • Master’s degree or MBA in commercial, engineering, finance, or other applicable area of study
  • Minimum of 7 to 10 years of experience in either commodity procurement or buying/trading of commodities
  • Strong analytical and communication skills
  • Strong relationship building capabilities with customers/vendors
  • Ability to analyze and interpret data
  • Knowledge of contracts and contract language helpful
  • Familiarity with chemical index
  • Advanced in MS Excel for modeling
  • English mandatory; a second European language preferred
