IATA is committed to achieving net-zero CO2 emissions by 2050. In our Sustainability and Economics team we take a holistic approach to this challenge and seek to combine subject matter expertise with a cross-functional approach in order to leverage on all the knowledge within the team. The ramp-up of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) is the key driver for our industry to be able to decarbonize. Airline obligations in this area will come at a price, and IATA endeavours to help ensure that the costs of transition are manageable. This requires a continued focus on fuel infrastructure, supply reliability, competition, and pricing.
We work across members, governments, and the fuel industry to help drive supply chain efficiency as well as the transition to SAF and other energy solutions. This includes production ramp-up, procurement tools, and the development and implementation of best practices for fuel supply and management. Monitoring developments, tracking impact, as well as providing data-driven solutions for members and supply chain partners are all part of how we can facilitate our industry’s transition to net zero.

Reporting to the Director Energy Transition, you will be part of a multifaceted Fuel team covering all of these priorities, and you will lead a group of four experts in commercial and sustainable aviation fuel. We are individually and collectively responsible for the team’s success, and expect a sympathetic and collaborative management style with an emphasis on upskilling across the team.


What your day would be like

Define, deliver, and manage a suite of tools and data solutions that will aid airlines, supply chain partners and other interested parties understand and systematically track issues such as:
  • fuel supply reliability and SAF availability
  • fuel pricing (including SAF)
  • the cost impact to airlines (including the cost of carbon)
Develop and manage a SAF procurement support facility to help members around the globe regarding sourcing, purchasing, and accounting for SAF.
Develop and manage tools and best practices pertaining to net zero and related corporate sustainability strategies.
Develop and manage advocacy campaigns for internal and external stakeholders regarding conventional fuel and SAF.
Contribute to the design and delivery of the bi-annual IATA Aviation Energy Forum.
Represent member airline interests in meetings, consultations, and industry events.
Coordinate the tracking and the impact assessment of fuel policy and regulation of airlines, in cooperation with notably our policy team.
Contribute to the team in a cross-functional manner regarding our ongoing research, development and tracking of relevant data and reports, notably pertaining to conventional aviation fuel and SAF.
Coordinate with other IATA departments on cross-cutting issues such as airport operations and air traffic management, support the identification of fuel efficiency opportunities, and the identification and implementation of present and future net zero solutions.
Provide subject matter support, project collaboration, and regional capacity building.


We would love to hear from you if


You have at least 10 years of experience and a university degree (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline. A post-graduate degree would be an advantage.
Experience in conventional and sustainable aviation fuel.
Experience on the development of data-driven platforms and analysis.
Excellent stakeholder contacts and credibility within the jet fuel / SAF industry.
Airline or aviation supplier industry experience, particularly in the fields of economics, finance, purchasing or operations.
A sympathetic and collaborative management style with strong emphasis on upskilling colleagues
