About the team


Our Cyber Centre of Competence team is embedded in the Cat Perils, Cyber & Geo department within the Swiss Re Institute (SRI), a Group function steering underwriting risk taking and servicing the various business units. Our remit is to craft opportunities and handle downside risks in cyber re/insurance where Swiss Re has a significant global business footprint.

The SRI’s overarching purpose is to build competitive advantage in risk knowledge and capital allocation for the Swiss Re Group. It executes R&D to ensure that capabilities remain cutting edge, maintain our underwriting excellence and incubate new business. We develop forward-looking views on risk pools and craft roadmaps to grow sustainably our business.


About the Role


You would lead Swiss Re’s expertise building in the Cyber re/insurance domain. You improve the performance of the group-wide cyber re/insurance portfolio underwritten in the business units by steering capital to the most promising risk pools in Cyber. Your remit is global. To that end you’ll lead a team of cyber actuaries and security specialists with currently 6 members.


Main responsibilities:


  • Complete the build-up and lead the Cyber Centre of Excellence – expertise building, talent development, outreach into business units.

  • Develop and advance Group-wide accumulation control and costing processes for affirmative and non-affirmative cyber, implemented in business units’ workflows and underwriting IT infrastructure, based on own R&D, vendor model expertise and third-party R&D.

  • Advance and scale infrastructure to collect, curate and exploit internal and external cyber exposure and claims data as a backbone for fact driven underwriting and steering decisions.

  • Shape the target cyber underwriting portfolio for the Group over the near - and medium-term, on the back of captured market insights.

  • Take major influence on underwriting expertise building and challenge underwriting risk taking decisions.

  • Make the team a world-class and sought-after thought leader – for the company´s senior management, for its underwriters, and in the insurance market


About You


Are you eager to push the expertise boundaries of a flourishing line of business in re/insurance & do you feel comfortable stepping into new territories? Do you relish today’s rapid technological advancements in data analytics, always with an eye on business opportunities & do you like to transform data, facts and expertise into impactful business decisions?


You have knowledge and technical expertise:


  • Excellent University degree, preferably in a field closely related to computer science or information technology/security

  • 10 years or more of professional experience, preferably both, in an IT security environment, and in a re/insurance underwriting/actuarial/risk management practice

  • Solid understanding of insurance products and Cyber specific underwriting capabilities & state-of-the-art IT and database tools in sophisticated corporate environments

  • Solid handling of analytical techniques, including ability to encourage, trigger and assure sophisticated analytical work

  • Proficiency in English, other languages are a plus
