To strengthen our Device and Packaging team, we are looking for a high caliber, self-motivated, Head of In vitro Diagnosis based inBraine l’Alleud, Belgium

You like to work in an environment where you will be:
  • Accountable for building and maintaining an IVD team to support UCB’s therapeutic product portfolio
  • Via the IVD team, accountable for delivering necessary IVD biomarker solutions for UCB’s therapeutic product portfolio
  • Work closely with Early Solutions Translational Medicine Biomarker and global clinical development teams and identify the biomarkers requiring development as IVD medical devices. Identify gaps in relation to Target Patient Value Profile (TVP) and clinical study design and recommend additional IVD biomarker discovery efforts.
  • Drive IVD biomarker adoption in clinical studies and provide necessary support to UCB’s clinical development teams and CROs
  • Actively engage with Medical Device Regulatory Affairs, Quality Assurance and Safety functions to ensure the biomarkers meet cross-functional requirements and are compliant
  • Drive and/or support partnership contracting with biomarker technology companies. Manage day-to-day technical engagement with the partners
  • Engage with academic, clinician or patient bodies on necessary research
  • Contribute to the Devices, Packaging, and Wearable Technologies Leadership Team with transversal accountability across the full scope of the leadership team.
Interested? For this position you’ll need the following education, experience andskills:
  • Minimum of 5-10 years working in the pharmaceutical/biologics/medical device industry
  • Technical training in molecular biology and diagnostic technologies
  • Capability in leadership in a matrix environment with multiple touch-points with transversal executives and governance committees
  • Must be able to coordinate cross-functional teams to achieve a desired objective or outcome especially when working in a multicultural team environment. Also needs to be able to share technical competencies through coaching/training team members when appropriate
  • Written and oral presentation skills
  • Negotiation skills and ability to influence including executive audiences
  • Communication and networking skills to build internal and external networks. Must be able to effectively interact with internal and external personnel.
  • Strategic perspective encompassing functional area as well as broader insight from across the medical device and biopharmaceutical industry
  • Forward-looking vision to anticipate challenges and opportunities in the evolving healthcare environment and its impact on future customer (patient, payer, physician, regulator) needs
  • Able to cope with stressful situations and drive issue resolution and decisions
  • Experience in IVD biomarkers is essential. Hands-on experience in companion diagnostics is highly desirable.
  • Experience in the regulatory aspects of IVD biomarkers is essential.
  • Experience in the technical aspects of DNA/RNA/proteins analysis is highly desirable.
  • Pharmaceutical business experience and familiarity with competitive landscape of devices and pharmaceuticals, drug development process, regulatory requirements, and market access/reimbursement processes
  • Proven track record in project management
  • Proven track record in leading teams in a matrix environment
  • Experience working in strategic projects and initiatives
  • Experience in global projects, ideally with USA or EU operational experience
  • Experience in evaluating external projects and technologies
