Your profile

  • You have a relevant Master degree, or equivalent, in law, business or economy
  • You have a proven experience in indirect tax (advisory) in an international environment of at least 3 years gained either in-house or in a Big 4 or a mix of both
  • You ideally have experience within the power & utilities or in commodities trading industries
  • Experience in VAT compliance will be a plus
  • You are fluent in English and speaking French would be seen as an advantage
  • Having sound interest in IT development is a plus
  • Your ability to quickly facilitate contact with internal (operations, trading, contracts, legal, accounting treasury….) and external (advisers, competitors, clients, internal Customs/Tax advisors of the TotalEnergies Company) stakeholders will make a difference
  • You are able to adapt to sudden changes and thrive in ambiguity
  • You have a keen eye for detail and are resilient.
  • Flexible working independently as well as in a team environment.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple assignments and remain responsive to internal/external inquiries.

You will be joining the international indirect tax team which belongs to TOTSA TotalEnergies Trading SA but you will be working for the gas and power trading business units, TotalEnergies Gas & Power Trading SA, the Indirect Tax team being a mutualised functions to both entities.

TotalEnergies has developed a strong expertise in oil and biofuels, natural gas and electricity trading. Trading entities are based in Geneva, Paris, Houston and Singapore.

TotalEnergies installed its European trading hub across in Geneva, which now bring together very large teams around trading activities: TOTSA TotalEnergies Trading and TotalEnergies Gas and Power (TGP).

TotalEnergies Gas and Power (TGP) is the trading arm of TotalEnergies in the field of low carbon energies. As such, it operates in fast-evolving market dynamics influenced by internal and external factors that require constant adaptation and evolution.

The Trading division in Geneva is responsible for optimising the purchase & sales portfolios of gas, electricity, CO2 emissions, dry bulk, and LNG in all recognised markets worldwide, in compliance with the Company trading guidelines.
In such context, TGP helps to ensure growth and profitability to a key segment of the business in order to reach the objective of Carbon Neutrality by 2050.


About the position

We are looking to expand our indirect tax team, with a new role focusing on gas and power topics to work closely with existing member of the team. You will directly report to the indirect tax manager based in Geneva.
Member of a dynamic team, you will collaborate with a wide variety of contacts (other departments within the company, tax advisors and law firms in different regions worldwide, counterparties, customs and tax authorities) on various topics. Trading activity is a fast and evolving activity in a dynamical and complex environment. For this reason, the Tax department needs to deeply understand the activity and react instantaneously.

What you will do:

  • Analysis of customs and VAT legislation where trading operates (mainly Europe, Middle East, Africa). Advise accordingly operations, trading and legal departments
  • Review commercials contracts from taxes perspective
  • Answer question received from customs and fiscal authorities in case of an audit
  • Prepare and present internal training to newcomer on customs and fiscal questions
  • Participate to customs and fiscal arrangements where the trading perform activities (analysis with local advisers, arrangements, formalities,….)
  • Participate to presentations, seminars et trainings organized by customs and tax advisers to anticipate new customs and fiscal questions
  • Elaborate constant IT improvements within our system to ensure the VAT compliance of our activities.
  • Assist and answer preliminary direct taxes questions
  • Prepare VAT returns in various countries where the company is registered
  • Review of invoices from VAT perspective
