Overview (quick description of the funded project and its context):

Quality healthcare and the good health of a population is the goal of every country’s leadership. However, along the pathway of achieving this goal, there are many challenges. Amidst the effort to overcome the challenges, the benefits for the patient should always remain the focus. To this end, the value of healthcare services for the patient has become a priority for health leadership globally – value-based health care (VBHC).

VBHC is about making the best use of available resources to achieve better outcomes and experiences for each patient. The ‘value’ is derived from ensuring that patients receive the best outcome from the healthcare they receive, while doing so at the most reasonable cost. This is achieved through shared decision-making involving both patients and clinicians, and in the process - doing less of the things that don’t help patients and reinvesting that money into more things that do.

The concept has been at the forefront of industry agenda and discussed extensively. What is lacking is more robust local implementation, particularly in low resource settings, and a platform offering the collaborative environment needed to engage different value-based health stakeholders.

The overall goal of the present project is to create a platform that will encourage academic leaders, government officials, frontline care providers, industry, and patients to work towards creating a value-based health care system through proven quality improvement methodologies and mechanisms that are unique to their own countries’ context.
