The Role

In this role, you’ll work with the Advisory Unit in fulfilling its mandate to support governmental entities, private sector and civil society organisations’ engagement with climate finance and carbon markets from a policy, market and technical perspective. This will involve close engagement with international climate governance systems, local climate frameworks, self-regulated systems and topics relating to sustainable and climate finance, carbon project development, planning and implementation of policy and strategic roadmaps, and considering socio-economic and cultural context. You can expect to be exposed to different initiatives and technologies in the carbon market space.


You will support the Advisory Unit under the leadership of the Head of Policy and Markets and will be expected to collaborate with colleagues across Europe, Latin America, Africa, and Southeast Asia, as well as clients and business partners from multicultural backgrounds. In this role, you will be exposed to cultural diversity, which will demand good teamwork and adaptability skills. You’d also be keen on travelling for work.


Key Responsibilities


Support the Advisory Unit to:


  • Support commercial interaction with potential project partners in a technical capacity;

  • Respond to Request for Proposals and identify new contacts and opportunities with other organisations;

  • Develop a base understanding of the technical carbon project cycle and carbon markets in a broader sense to be able to draft commercial proposals;

  • Conduct a thorough analysis of databases to support our advisory services. Extract, analyze, and interpret large datasets to identify trends, anomalies, and opportunities in the climate policy and carbon market sectors.

  • Assist in drafting policy and market reports, ensuring that findings and recommendations are communicated in a clear and objective manner. Develop supporting materials such as graphs, figures, and charts to enhance the comprehension and impact of these reports.

  • Work closely with team members and external stakeholders to execute projects efficiently. Coordinate activities, manage timelines, and ensure the integration of various project components.

  • Represent our unit in meetings with external stakeholders. Communicate effectively, lead discussions, and contribute to the development of strategic partnerships.

  • Analyze complex data and information to propose innovative solutions and recommendations that address the challenges faced by our clients in the realm of climate finance and governance.


Capabilities and Experience


  • Ideally, but not required,1-2 years experience in working in Environment or Climate Change related work;

  • Currently enrolled with a higher education degree, ideally a master’s, in a relevant field such as Climate Change, Environmental Management, International Relations, Political Science, Sustainable Development or equivalent;

  • Strong interest in carbon markets and the carbon project cycle from registration to issuance – previous knowledge is not necessary;

  • Proficiency in English.

  • Is legally entitled to work in Switzerland;

  • Is interested in having an initial exposure to climate finance, policy as well as carbon projects development space;

  • Has a strong attention to detail;

  • Is a good communicator both verbally and written;

  • Can manage competing priorities and is respectful of others’ time in a busy organisation;

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to handle large datasets.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team and to engage effectively with external stakeholders.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
