Are you an experienced data engineer looking for a creative and innovative environment with a human purpose? Would you like to be part of a team working on developing a data platform, making sure our data makes its way from a vast array of sources to the right place? At Randstad Switzerland, we are looking for you! We’re looking for a data engineer available to join our internal team immediately.

Randstad Switzerland is on its way to redefine its data and analytics landscape. We want to reshape the way we work, and for that we need you. The company possesses large amounts of data: the characteristics of candidates and business data on clients, other financial and market data. You’ll be part of the data & analytics team and help our company in implementing a fully cloud-based BI architecture. You will be working closely with global data and analytics CoE, which designs and helps us implement the blueprint for the entire Randstad Group, which consists of 38 countries.

You will play a crucial role in ensuring the understanding of our source systems, setup of data architecture, managing our data pipelines, and building a strong data governance culture. Our tech stack is GCP (Google Cloud Platform) Bigquery with the extension of tools like Composer/Airflow, Dataflow/Apache Beam, Gitlab, Spinnaker, SonarCube a.o.

Your role

Because of the central position of the role as a data engineer you will play a crucial role in translating business requirements into data products like pipelines and data marts. Additionally, you also manage the required data quality standards (availability, integrity, confidentiality, actuality, frequency, and completeness). At Randstad, we process a lot of personal data so we expect our data engineers to act as a custodian. Designing solutions with the highest security standards in mind.
  • You develop and maintain a next-generation scalable, flexible, and high-performance data architecture
  • You assemble large, complex data sets that meet functional / non-functional business requirements
  • You identify, design, and implement internal process improvements: automating manual processes, optimizing data delivery
  • You create and maintain an optimal data pipeline architecture
  • You explore and define ways to improve data reliability, efficiency, and quality
  • You help define quality standards for the team and share your knowledge
  • You collaborate closely with our data analytics team (finance) and our international digital community in continuing to shape the technical vision and recast problems and challenges into innovative solutions
  • You work closely with the business functions to identify the problem statement and work towards answering those from a (multidisciplinary) data perspective
  • You give advice on potential areas where data streams can be optimized
  • You act as an intermediary for problems, with both technical and non-technical audiences
what do we ask of you?
  • You have at least 2 years of working experience with ETL (preferably ELT)
  • You have working experience with database design, data modeling and normalization techniques (preferable)
  • You tackle things in a proactive way by proposing ’what if’ scenarios and strive for quality in a persistent way.
  • As a strong communicator, you are not afraid to speak up about what most right for our business environment
  • You keep focus and drive for results in a very dynamic and paced environment
  • You combine an eye for details in your analysis with a structured way of problem-solving
  • You are comfortable in an agile working environment as we in Randstad encourage experiments and exploration, so you should be able to adapt to a variety of challenges and appreciate quick feedback loops!
skills & knowledge
  • Advanced SQL knowledge
  • Knowledge in any object-oriented/ functional scripting languages: Java, Python, Node, etc.
  • Knowledge in cloud infrastructure and Cloud-based way of working, knowledge of GCP and technologies like Bigquery, Dataflow/Apache Beam, and Composer/Airflow is a (big)plus
  • Knowledge of Tableau or similar programs
  • Knowledge of scalable data platforms, security, authorization, and authentication.
  • Experience in common DevOps and CI/CD practices to guarantee the quality of our products (Gitlabs mainly)
  • If you really want to impress us, you can do so by having experience in API management, a good understanding of analytics and machine learning concepts, python, and data governance.
language skills
  • Excellent command (spoken/written) of English, German is an asset
