ELGM Southern & Eastern Europe Lead Business Area Controller

Working with the Electrification (EL) Business Area, you will be partnering with EL Global Markets Southern & Eastern Europe Lead Business Area Manager and EL Global Markets, Head of Finance to develop and implement Business strategies across the EL Global Markets SEE region. Supporting business goals and initiatives by ensuring that strong finance and control capabilities are in place for business operations and growth. Counselling business leadership on finance and governance matters and advise efficient solutions. Representing business needs and provide consistent reporting and active financial analytics. Applying finance policies defined by Corporate, Business Area (BA), Global Markets and local regulations in each Country. Ensuring Fiduciary requirements are met effectively in SEE countries, including local business activities in scope are in line with applicable country regulatory requirements and the overall ABB strategy. This position reports directly to the EL Global Markets, Head of Finance, Electrification Business Area.

Your responsibilities

  • Performance targets: Provides active Finance support and improvement actions to ensure achievement of SEE business targets such as Demand orders & revenues, Front end marketing & sales cost to serve (sales expenses, G&A expenses, cost of sales elements), division & product group mix, cross-division new orders, segment mix, share of wallet, front end inventory, overdues, EBITA, cash flow, NPV, rebates and commercial operations effectiveness. Supports and is accountable for implementation and fulfillment of all relevant Internal Controls, Table of authority (TOA), Local authorization tables (LAT), Business authorization tables (BAT), and required fiduciary duties for EL organizations in Countries and for ABB for EL Led countries. Ensures Fiduciary requirements are professionally enforced in SEE, including eventually direct country fiduciary responsibilities. Provides oversight to ensure local compliance with all applicable fiduciary requirements within the region, including acting as the key company contact in all finance related matters for external parties (incl. local authorities, multi-lateral organizations) in the case direct country fiduciary responsibilities are assigned.
  • Strategy leadership: Understands the Business drivers, the current and long-term strategy and identifies opportunities for Finance to add value to the Business. Sets and implements Finance strategy in the SEE organization in line with Corporate, BA & Global Markets strategies covering expertise, competencies, and organization design. Supports Lead Business Area Manager in Customer and Markets driven strategies to ensure demand generation and profitable growth. Defines Finance priorities to support the business strategies in the regional market that are fully aligned with Corporate, BA & Global Markets priorities. Further enhances Digital, external focus, forward-looking & real time initiatives. Ongoing target being continuous improvement and simplification.
  • Financial reporting: In coordination with the Corporate, BA, Global Markets & Finance GBS establishes and oversees processes and tools necessary to obtain transparent and reliable financial data and business information in the Countries. Ensures high quality of financial data and business information in line with defined standards and financial closing schedules. Performance analysis, review & proposal for actions to management supporting business performance. Enforces Corporate (incl ARP), BA and relevant Division specific finance policies, and applicable local reporting and filing requirements in each Country.
  • Commercial excellence: Ensures accuracy and effectiveness of commercial processes including market price positioning, rebate and discount schemes, quotation, sales price management, credit, collection in the Countries. Identifies and accounts for and manages potential risks in the country relating to frame and other contractual agreements with particular focus on Integrity and compliance on distributor and channel partners. Engages with Regional Distribution Centers (RDC) in the region. Supports HR initiatives in SEE.
  • Internal controls & compliance: Implements and ensures compliance with global and local standards, rules and regulations (including direct & indirect taxation, international transfer pricing regulation, trade compliance), tools, policies and processes related to operations/project execution. Ensures transparency in financial reporting and disclosures. Defines and supports implementation of internal controls regarding financial and non-financial operations. In coordination with the CFMs, Hub & other Controllers, responsible for Assurance, SOX and overall oversight on the governance and ensures timely logging and resolution of identified deficiencies. Supports internal and external audits.
  • Standards and governance: Direct and control financial report’s quality and accuracy, ensuring that the practices of the SEE organization comply with Group, EL Business Area and Global Markets policies, external rules and regulations, and generally accepted accounting principles for the entire organization activities in the region.
  • Risk management: Assess business risk exposure and define risk mitigation strategies to minimize impact on business performance. Ensures risk management processes are consistently implemented in all SEE Countries.
  • People leadership and development: Ensures that EL Global Markets Southern & Eastern Europe Lead Finance team is properly organized, adequately staffed, skilled and directed, including all countries within scope. Guides, motivates, and develops direct and indirect team members in line with HR policies. Constantly strives to develop, attract, and retain talent. Promotes job rotations and assignments to share best practices and increase the team competencies and motivation.
  • M&A, Reorganizations, restructuring, non-core: Lead and actively support as needed.
  • Safety & Integrity, and ABB Values: Continues to promote the Safety & Integrity culture consistently. Implements HSE and business compliance standards and regulations on behalf of the BA within the area of responsibility. Drives simplification on every process for SEE Global Markets community, reduces internal focus by eliminating unnecessary meetings, communications, and redundant processes. Proactively identify and work to remove barriers to execution, making customer focus the primary value across the organization (along with Safety & Integrity and fully respectful of policies and Internal Controls). Lead by example to drive the right behaviors, personally living the ABB values of Courage, Care, Curiosity, Collaboration, and Corporate standards.

Your background

  • Master’s degree, CA, CPA or MBA in finance
  • Minimum 12 to 15 years working knowledge with at least 7 to 8 years supervisory experience in a global matrix multicultural environment
  • Broad functional knowledge and expertise, including full range of functional finance skills: finance controlling, FP&A, solid understanding of US GAAP, Internal controls & fiduciary requirements
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, collaborative style and ability to communicate effectively at all levels. Lead and keep team motivated. Mature team player with uncompromising integrity
  • Strategic thinker with strong planning skills, high business acumen and street smart
  • Extensive experience of working with multiple contemporary Finance systems i.e. ERP/SAP
  • Prior experience with large multinational companies or reputed consulting or Big4 for few years or having lived abroad would be an advantage.
  • Proficiency in Italian language desired
