About The Role

Location: Basel, Switzerland

Novartis Biologics Research Center (BRC) within Biomedical Research, is seeking a collaborative and inquisitive Group Leader to lead multiple teams to support laboratory automation, assay development, and high-throughput screening in Basel. In this position, you will have had direct experience in designing and maintaining complex, integrated automation platforms, assay development, and high-throughput screening for biologics.

Your responsibilities:

  • Support and design automation needs across all of the BRC functions at the Basel site
  • Work with stakeholders to develop and validate automated bio-assays, cell culture processes, and analytical assays in response to functional needs
  • Identify areas of innovation and support technology development
  • Ensure compliance, maintenance, repairs and readiness state of automated systems in compliance with internal regulations
  • Train, mentor and empower associates on the team and assist with their career development
  • Serve as a group leader for multiple automation teams supporting different functions (>6 direct and indirect reports)

Role Requirements

What you will bring to the role:

  • Ph.D. in Biology, Cell Biology or Biochemical Engineering or similar with 10+ years of professional experience in a drug discovery environment, or a B.S./M.S. with 18+ years of professional experience in a drug discovery environment
  • Industry experience with designing and maintaining integrated automation platforms
  • Experience developing and validating high throughput bioassays
  • Group and team management experience managing multiple direct reports
