The Position

This position is within the Neuroscience & Rare Diseases (NRD) organization, which represents a biology and medicine unit that combines world-leading science in areas where we have a long and successful track record with new avenues of research that hold tremendous promise for millions of patients and their caregivers worldwide. NRD is developing medicines for a range of serious prevalent and rare diseases of the nervous system.

Role Mission

We are offering an outstanding opportunity for a Global Head of Operations - NRD. You will report to the SVP and Global Head of NRD, and be a member of the NRD leadership team (NLT). You will have the joint responsibility for delivery of advances from research through completion of early Phase 2 trials in early development, coordinating all activities of NRD, ensuring the most effective processes and governance are established and in place for the optimal execution of the NRD strategies, and acting as a key interface with other functions within pRED and across Roche.

Your Impact

  • Serve as an in-house consultant to the NLT to effectively execute the NRD R&D vision and strategy, ensuring: collaboration, enterprise thinking, community and shared vision
  • Thought partner to the Head of NRD on strategic and scientific topics, responsible for providing insights and perspectives and ensuring the Head of NRD is briefed on activities and events
  • Provide strong support to the Head of NRD and leadership on monitoring and ensuring execution of the portfolio projects through regular monitoring of milestones and cycle times of projects, and outlining actions required for research and project team leaders and NLT members to implement
  • Integrate efforts to deliver on the overall NRD strategy and vision by setting up and maintaining appropriate processes and governance bodies across NRD
  • Organize, manage and facilitate portfolio committees in the NRD including agenda setting, outcomes, and action items management
  • Facilitate the annual goal setting, manage, and track goals to ensure objectives are met, and implementing necessary corrective measures where necessary
  • Help to connect NRD with all relevant functions, stakeholders and partners within the organization to ensure efficient cross-functional processes and communication
  • Manage a team of operations specialists and administrative assistants

Your Profile

  • PhD or MD focused in any area of biology with 10+ years experience following training in molecular or systems neuroscience as well as disorders of the nervous system in academia or industry
  • Proven track record in leadership positions, operations and portfolio management (multiple projects, complex programs, operational leadership) as well as leadership in matrix environment
  • Demonstrated leadership and influence management skills in managing multidisciplinary teams in a matrix environment
  • Excellent organization and coordination skills and proactive working style
  • Proven ability to apply strategic thinking principles and drive execution of projects
  • Fluency in English is required
