For this role, we are looking for a data scientist with a broad set of skills to help us transform the way we conduct agricultural science. Data Scientist (m/f/d) - 18042264

Role Purpose
  • Ownership of data exploration efforts, connecting different data sources and extracting additional value and insight from existing and future data (e.g. imagery- and sensor-derived data).
  • Direct contribution in data analysis and statistics, with ownership of data extraction, processing, analysis reporting and visualization.
  • Contribution to the digital transformation of Syngenta R&D, exploring new ways of working and new technologies, and innovating data capture and analysis methodologies.
  • Explore available methods in predictive analytics to create more business value from the available resources.
  • Work in close collaboration with customers from Global/Regions/Countries to meet their requirements for data analysis and visualization in a cost-effective way
Accountabilities
  • Independently ensure good data-science practice is applied in all disciplines of crop protection development.
  • Closely work with product-line teams in statistical and data-analytics work applied to development projects from beginning to the end.
  • Continuously improve data-analysis methods and engines applied in the business in coordination with other project-team members locally and globally.
  • In coordination with other functions, help in the transition to big-data methods applied to agriculture.
  • Develop and implement a strategy to foster best-practice in data analysis and participate in projects within the area of responsibility.
  • Provide documentation, training material and training courses to maintain and improve trial design and analysis standards for global/regional/country users (field scientists, technical managers, others as necessary).
  • Support Data Analytics and Predictive Modelling team activities wherever necessary.
Requirements

Qualifications
  • M.Sc. or Ph.D. in statistics, computer sciences or natural sciences (e.g., biology, chemistry, agronomy)
  • Profound knowledge of data-analytics methods and their application in biology, agronomy and crop care.
  • Advanced technical knowledge of the R programming language, ideally with experience in package development.
  • Agile mindset, with focus on delivery of results in constant contact with stakeholders. Training in Agile Project Management methods and/or experience in start-up companies is an asset.
  • Familiar with Git or other version-control systems for software development.
  • Familiar with database query languages (e.g., SQL).
  • Machine learning experience is a major plus, but certainly not a must.
  • You have the ability to influence, to lead and build a culture of innovation which creates an environment that inspires and supports creativity. You have strong pro-active communication skills and alignment with stakeholders.
  • Experience in analysing and extracting knowledge from (often noisy) data.
  • Experience in working well as a part of a diverse international team
  • Fluent verbal and written communications skills in English. Other languages are plus.
