Department of Economics Predoctoral Fellow in Economics
70 %The Department of Economics at the University of Zurich, a leading European research department, representing a wide range of research interests in all areas of economics, invites applicants for the position of a predoctoral research fellow in Economics. We are looking for a highly skilled and motivated individual who wants to get exposure to and training in a broad set of economic research topics and methods before pursuing a PhD in Economics.

The predoctoral fellow receives an appointment of one to two years and will work closely with Prof. Amanda Dahlstrand and/or Prof. Maddalena Ronchi on several projects on labor economics, gender inequality, health economics and the future of work. Your responsibilities

The position offers an opportunity to gain first-hand experience in carrying out and developing cutting-edge empirical research.

We expect to involve the candidate in different stages of research, including brainstorming, literature reviews, field experiment design and supervision, model building, data processing, data analysis, data visualization and writing.

Your profile

The candidate must possess (at the time of starting) a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree with excellent grades in Economics or another quantitative field.

We are looking for a person who enjoys independent problem-solving and thrives on taking high-level directional advice and then running with this advice as far as possible. A willingness to work hard, be self-motivated and learn will be essential for doing well in this position.

Candidates need experience with Stata and/or R. Knowledge of other statistical programs such as Python are welcome.

Very good oral and written communication skills in English. Knowledge of German is not required.

The predoc can actively participate in departmental activities, such as external and internal seminars and reading groups and can audit classes that she/he may be interested in at the PhD level. The predoctoral fellow will join a dynamic and inter-disciplinary team of international researchers and a community of fellow predocs.

The predoctoral position is a full-time commitment, combines research work with learning activities and is ideal for a recent graduate who is interested in going on to do a PhD in Economics.

Start of employment

Employment start date: earliest August 15, 2023, latest September 15, 2023.
Length of commitment: The appointment will be for one year and can be extended by an additional year. The end of this position is in summer/fall 2024 and can be extended to summer/fall 2025 by mutual agreement.
