Job Summary (Primary function)

The Manager of Environmental Health and Safety for the Incyte Biologics Facility is responsible to provide a safe environment for all employees, visitors and the community as well as to identify, analyze and minimize exposure to personnel, prevent property losses, and create systems that encourage safe work practices.

The responsibilities will include supporting the design development, procurement, factory acceptance testing, installation, commissioning and qualification of new process systems and equipment utilized in the production of biopharmaceutical drug substance during the construction phase and then when the site will be validated and create systems that encourage safe work practices.

Duties and Responsibilities

Responsible for the following EHS programs: chemical safety, biosafety, emergency preparedness, environmental compliance, EHS system maintenance and general safety.

  • Develop and manage the implementation of EHS programs/procedures/systems to meet the needs of a growing company

  • To be the Site representative for the local and national official’s authorities (SUVA, SECO, ECA, Police, Fire fighter brigade, etc.)

  • Ensure that appropriate actions and organization are in place during the construction phase (e.g. Construction site inspection, Regular EHS meeting with Suppliers and General Contractors, Construction staff training, Track incident and accident records and conduct investigation when needed)

  • Evaluate working conditions and recommend changes to working procedures when required

  • Assess risks and hazards and plan appropriate corrective and preventive actions. Participate to HAZOP reviews as EHS representative and conduct risk assessments regarding Business Continuity

  • Determine all safety/environmental-related regulations and standards that apply to the operations

  • Maintain records, reports and correspondence using computer databases and other software programs

  • Schedule and conduct regular safety education and training programs for all staff as per their specific requirements and in accordance with the specific hazards and risks associated with different work activities

  • Design and implement systematic safety inspections/audits, establish corrective action plans for all identified findings and track all open items to closure, detect hazards and unsafe working conditions

  • Prepare the Site for EHS management system certifications (e.g. ISO 45001, Directive MSST)

  • Implement Standard Operating Procedures in terms of environmental protection and safety keeping them updated on the basis of new findings and technological progress

  • Contribute and assist manager on the investigation of accidents/injuries to determine cause and to prepare recommendations for prevention. Assist with worker’s compensation claims and risk management

  • Remain technically competent and keep current in new developments within the industry and provide up to date information on EHS requirements and regulations

  • Report any non-conformances, near miss and accidents that he/she becomes aware of, to the upper management and make recommendations for actions to be taken.

  • Is the primary site contact regarding all EHS related issues

  • Contribute positively to a strong culture of business integrity and ethics

  • Act within compliance and legal requirements as well as within company guidelines

Requirements

  • 5-8 years of progressive EHS experience in the manufacturing industry, Biologics Pharmaceutical Drug substance nice to have

  • Requires four-year degree (BA or BS) with coursework in safety, engineering or related field

  • Excellent organization, communication, and presentation skills

  • Good knowledge of Construction & Design, Law & Legislation, Fire protection & Prevention, Occupational Health & Safety, Production, Security, Site Management, Transport & warehouse safety, Waste Management

  • Good knowledge of risk assessment and control

  • Recognized Health & Safety training like “lngénieur Sécurité”

  • Requires training and experience in fire prevention and security Knowledge

  • Fluent in English and French

  • Travelling may be requires

  • Demonstrated track record of success working on multiple new product introductions, and life-cycle management

  • Broad knowledge of Pharmaceutical Quality, Manufacturing and GLP/GCP/GMP practices

  • Ability to build trust and create collaborative environment and relationships

  • Strategic thinker who can balance near term objectives with long term goals and outcomes, evaluate risk and develop effective solutions through an integrated multi-disciplined decision-making approach.
