WHO WE ARE

The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) was established in 1999 as an international independent agency to lead a collaborative worldwide movement for doping-free sport. As the global regulatory body, WADA’s primary role is to develop, harmonize and coordinate anti-doping rules and policies across all sports and countries. Our key activities include: scientific and social science research; education; intelligence & investigations; development of anti-doping capacity; and, monitoring of compliance with the World Anti-Doping Program.

POSITION OVERVIEW

WADA’s Lausanne-based European Office is the first point of contact for International Sports Federations (IFs), as well as sports and public authorities in Europe.

The Manager, Government and National Anti-Doping Organization (NADO) Relations is responsible for providing support to the European Office Director and WADA’s top management in developing mutually beneficial relationships between WADA, European governments, European intergovernmental institutions and European National Anti-Doping Organizations (NADOs).

The Manager, Government and NADO Relations supports the development of effective European NADOs’ anti-doping programs that are compliant with the World Anti-Doping Code and the development of a proper domestic and European framework in support of clean sport.

MAIN CHALLENGES

  • Work in partnership with European Governments and intergovernmental institutions to secure support to clean sport in the Region;
  • Ensure European NADOs are provided the right level of support to implement Code-compliant anti-doping programs.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support the European Office Director and WADA’s top management from an operational standpoint in WADA’s interactions with European governments and intergovernmental institutions, including in particular the Council of Europe, the European Union and European Commission, as well as with European NADOs;
  • Actively contribute to the further development and implementation of WADA’s government relations strategy piloted by WADA’s Stakeholder Engagement and Partnerships Senior Director and its implementation in Europe;
  • Support the implementation of WADA’s NADO program strategy in Europe in close cooperation with WADA’s NADO/RADO Relations Director and support European NADOs in the implementation of Code-compliant anti-doping programs in close cooperation with WADA’s Compliance Unit;
  • Develop and maintain mutually beneficial relationships between WADA and the relevant personnel of governments, intergovernmental institutions and NADOs in Europe;
  • Support the implementation of the World Anti-Doping Code and International Standards and the development of effective anti-doping programs by NADOs in Europe, including through facilitation of partnerships between developed and developing NADOs;
  • Proactively identify governmental issues that may arise in Europe which could impact progress in the protection of clean sport;
  • As directed by the European Office Director or WADA’s Stakeholder Engagement and Partnerships Senior Director at WADA’s Headquarters, represent WADA and deliver presentations at meetings of the Council of Europe (CAHAMA, Monitoring Group, etc.), the European Union (EU Sport Forum, Parliament hearings, etc.) and other meetings and conferences in Europe, to support and convey WADA’s vision;
  • When needed, prepare briefs and presentations/speaking points for WADA management representatives speaking at events organized by European governments, intergovernmental institutions or NADOs;
  • Develop strategies to strengthen anti-doping cooperation between NADOs and IFs;
  • Maintain the database of European governmental, intergovernmental and NADO contacts, in collaboration with relevant WADA departments;
  • Support other WADA tasks in relation to governmental and intergovernmental affairs, including the review of projects submitted as part of the UNESCO Voluntary Fund for the Elimination of Doping in Sport, in cooperation with WADA’s Stakeholder Engagement and Partnerships Team based at WADA’s Headquarters.


QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  • Bachelor or Master’s degree in international relations, law, politics, management, sport, communications or other relevant field;
  • Minimum three years of experience and knowledge in the field of anti-doping within a government, intergovernmental institution, NADO or other relevant organization in Europe;
  • Extensive knowledge of European intergovernmental institutions;
  • Excellent oral and written skills in one of the two WADA official languages (English/French) and very good command of the other official language; Additional languages would be an asset;
  • Ability to prepare and deliver oral presentations and to answer technical questions;
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Capacity to develop and maintain constructive and lasting relationships with stakeholders;
  • High level problem-solving skills;
  • Autonomy and sense of organization and prioritization;
  • Speed, efficiency, and flexibility in executing tasks;
  • Precision;
  • Periodic work in the evening or on weekends;
  • Availability for business travel, occurring on average once per month and trips generally lasting 2-4 days;
