In this exciting PhD project, you apply statistical and data science methods to improve medical care of patients suffering from intracranial aneurysms.

School: Life Sciences und Facility Management
Starting date: April 2024 or upon mutual agreement

Your role

  • Do research with the goal of a better understanding of intracranial aneurysm disease progression and its aspects such as aneurysm formation, growth, rupture, its management, and outcome to improve patient care.
  • Using Bayesian methods such as probabilistic models and other data science approaches to analyse data of patients suffering from intracranial aneurysms for prediction and improved causal disease understanding.
  • Perform research under the guidance from both ZHAW and University of Zurich researchers and deliver useful tools for clinical usage.
  • Analyse data of various sources such as clinical data from hospitals including medical imaging data and research tools such as genetic sequencing and physical simulations.
  • Publish results and attend international conferences.
  • Collaborate interdisciplinary and internationally.
  • Support with teaching duties of a reasonable amount.
  • Attend some relevant lectures in the field.

Your profile

  • Degree in (bio-)statistics, mathematics, computer science, physics, (biomedical) engineering, (bio-) medicine or a related subject
  • Interest in applying statistical and data science methods to the medical field
  • Intrinsic motivation in medical research
  • High level of independence and dedication.
  • Knowledge of programming languages such as e.g., R, Python, or other programming languages.
  • Some initial research experience and/or achievements are advantageous but not mandatory
