Department of Economics Predoctoral Fellow in Economics
70 %The Department of Economics at the University of Zurich, a leading European research department representing a wide range of research interests in all areas of economics, invites applicants for the position of a predoctoral research fellow in Economics.

The predoctoral fellow receives an appointment of one to two years and will work closely with Prof. Ferrari on several projects on Firm behavior and supply chains fragility.

Your responsibilities

The position offers an opportunity to gain first-hand experience in carrying out and developing cutting-edge theoretical and empirical research.

We expect to involve the candidate in different stages of research, including brainstorming, literature reviews, empirical design, model building, data processing, data analysis, data visualization and writing.

Your profile

The candidate must possess (at the time of starting) a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree with excellent grades in Economics or another quantitative field (such as, but not limited to, Biology, Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or Physics).

We are looking for a person who enjoys independent problem-solving and thrives on taking high-level directional advice and then running with this advice as far as possible. A willingness to work hard, be self-motivated and learn will be essential for doing well in this position.

Candidates need experience with Stata and Matlab/Python/Julia. Knowledge of other statistical programs such as R is welcome.

Candidates also need some experience in solving theoretical models of firm behavior. This can be demonstrated by successful performance in Master level courses such as Trade or Industrial Organization.

Very good oral and written communication skills in English. Knowledge of German is not required.

Start of employment

Employment start date: earliest August 2023, latest October 2024. Flexible start.
Length of commitment: The appointment will be for one year and can be extended by an additional year.
The end of this position is in summer/fall 2024.
