For our office in Zug we are currently looking for a new Principal member to join our Research & Design Equity Benchmark Indices team within the Product organization. The focus is on equity indices: traditional and fundamental-data indices.

Core responsibilities of Research & Design are the creation of new indices, and ensuring the integrity of existing indices.

Both processes involve a Research phase that aims to define the most adequate methodology with respect to the declared objective of the index and compliant with the existing regulations. This conceptual phase includes a close interaction with market participants and the management of any needed market consultation, and is completed by comprehensive back-testing and analysis of scenarios, supporting the decision taking process. The methodologies of existing indices are additionally subject to regular reviews that ensure the intended economic reality is correctly represented.
The Design phase is completed by closely cooperating with the departments of Product Architecture, Operations, Sales, Marketing, Product Management and Legal: all details necessary to ensure the practical viability and maintenance of the index are worked out. in this stage the index methodology is finalized; the required data sources are identified and the technical teams are assisted in setting up the data ingestion and processing; information material for clients as well as Sales trainings are produced together with Marketing and Product Management; the indices are finally handed over to Operations.

Responsibilities

As part of the Research & Design team, the successful candidate will:
  • Research new index concepts
  • Review existing index methodologies
  • Sound out market participants about the suitability of new concepts and future demand
  • Run complex market consultations
  • Possess a working knowledge of regulations (BMR, UCITS)
  • Define the index methodology, in line with the stated objectives and in compliance with the existing regulations
  • Compile the internal index documentation (position paper) and ensure its approval via governance process
  • Back-test indices according to the methodology
  • Conduct analyses on the back-tested data
  • Ensure availability of any data required for the calculation and maintenance of indices by identifying appropriate data and data sources
  • Ingest data into Research environments, map data to STOXX data framework, clean historical data
  • Assist Business Architecture team in the ingestion and alignment of the data into production environments
  • Work with Product Management to create presentations for training of sales, and sales pitch books
  • Liaise with other teams to ensure a timely and successful launch of indices

Qualifications

In consideration of STOXX’ objective to further enhance its offering of indices, the successful candidate should meet the following requirements:
  • Have 7+ years of experience in index business or fundor risk management
  • Possess deep knowledge of traditional index construction (e.g. market capitalization based indices), equity allocation, corporate actions implications, peculiarites of local equity markets
  • Possess an MSc degree or higher from a top tier university in a economics or other scientific field
  • Have extensive experience in SQL, VBA, Python; flexibility among various languages is highly preferred
  • Possess deep knowledge of working with databases and large data sets: data manipulation and thorough understanding of exchange
  • Possess deep knowledge of Bloomberg Terminal, FactSet and Refinitiv products (e.g. QAD)
  • Have a flair for interaction with stakeholders of differentiated nature and seniority
  • Be a self-starter, with ability to generate innovation and to execute tasks to concretize the ideas
  • Be able to take ownership of complex projects, from idea generation to implementation
  • Be able to take the lead and coordinate with other teams to ensure projects delivery
  • Be self-organized, carrying out multi-tasking activities
  • Have an analytical mindset, problem solver with a meticulous eye for detail
  • Be able to produce timely, high quality, and accurate work, under tight deadlines
  • Be able to work independently as well as in collaboration with others
  • High proficiency in English mandatory, German highly beneficial
