About the Role

Key responsibilities include:


  • Owning and looking after a wide range of projects that are outside the regular business as usual reporting cycle, from small ad hoc tasks to large long-running change programs.

  • Making actuarial and business recommendations based on professional judgment and experience.

  • Ad-hoc involvement in analysis and production of reporting numbers as well as targeted valuation improvements initiatives under all valuation basis, including using seriatim data or profiles.

  • Developing an understanding of the underlying risks on the L&H EMEA Balance Sheet, and using this knowledge to manage the in-force portfolio.

  • Working closely with actuarial colleagues to find opportunities for improvements and alignment of processes across the business.

  • Encouraging and facilitating the use of the latest technologies and methodologies in valuation and reporting and developing pragmatic solutions to business problems.

  • Working with other business functions - including Finance, Products, Portfolio Management, IT and others.

  • Providing support to more junior members of the team.


About the Team


The Swiss Carrier Reserving and Projects team is part of L&H Actuarial Management EMEA, and is made up of around 30 people, split between London, Zurich and Bangalore. Within the team, we are a dedicated group of Project Actuaries who are passionate about providing actuarial projects that add value for our colleagues across the EMEA business.


In the Projects team we work as actuarial consultants on a variety of initiatives; initiating and delivering Swiss Re-wide improvements to our valuation processes, EMEA-focused projects that improve the accuracy and quality of the balance sheet and help valuation actuaries do their jobs more easily and effectively, and supporting changes such as corporate restructures and IFRS-17 and other


About You


Technical Skills and Knowledge

  • Qualified actuary/student close to qualification with at least 5 to 7 years of relevant actuarial experience.

  • Experience with insurance or reinsurance reporting is an advantage but not crucial.

  • Familiarity with the range of Life & Health insurance products and reinsurance structures written in the European markets.

  • Strong Excel skills, expertise in actuarial or statistical software (e.g. Moses, R) appreciated.

  • Previous experience in consulting or leading actuarial projects preferred.


Other Skills

  • Good project management skills and can-do attitude, able to consider your own and other’s needs in a fast-paced environment.

  • High degree of flexibility and adaptability, in terms of approaches to work and re-prioritization, as the job is very project focused.

  • An independent thinker who can take ambiguous problems and propose effective solutions, able to form your view on technical and non-technical topics, but also consider a range of perspectives.

  • Teamwork; willing to support the team to meet changing priorities and requirements. Able to build effective working relationships with colleagues in other teams and across technical fields.

  • Strong communication and influencing skills, capable of discussing complex technical matters with internal interested parties.

  • Curiosity and problem-solving approach, with a track record of improving processes

  • Fluent in English, both oral and written.
