Position summary – Innovating the future of consumer healthcare packaging

We have a strong innovation growth plan, coupled with ambitious sustainability goals for 2030 including a commitment to making healthcare more accessible to more consumers everyday. Packaging innovation is instrumental to delivering all three of these and as such is a highly strategic capability for our R&D function and the long term health of the business.

In R&D Packaging (rdpk) at Haleon our mission is ‘innovating the future of packaging to deliver everyday better health’. Our function has three priorities: to deliver and strengthen the innovation pipeline, to lead the transformation on sustainable packaging and to anticipate the development of emerging packaging technologies & solutions. Underpinning this is an appetite for building class-leading rdpk development capability and a sustained focus on looking after each other and nurturing our talent.

We are seeking a Principle Packaging Engineer who shares the passion for the impact packaging can have on consumers’ lives, on business results and on society.

As a Principal Packaging Enginner (Program Lead), youwill steer the delivery of packaging strategic programs such as Packaging Sustainability roadmap and act as the ambassador of the program to the internal and external stakeholders.

The position reports to the Packaging Lead – Global OTC (Over-the-Counter) and is based in Nyon, Switzerland.

Specific responsibilities include:

• Lead the OTC rdpk Sustainability Program and content throughout the entire packaging development process (from idea identification to commercialization).
• Be hands-on and accountable. Own and deliver key packaging projects to support the program.
• Implement monitoring measures to track the adherence to the plan while aligning with key stakeholders.
• Identify new opportunities to drive packaging sustainability within our brands while also enhancing the consumer experience.
• Identify interdependencies between projects. Leverage interdependencies to enhance each project while also accelerating timelines.
• Represent and advocate rdpk strategy and vision on Packaging Sustainability both internally and externally.
• Ensure the packaging sustainability roadmaps are embedded into every product innovation and maintenance work for our brands.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., packaging, sustainability, environmental science, business administration, or a related field)
• 10+ years packaging development experience in FMCG of which 3+ years’ experience on delivering on packaging sustainability projects.

Necessary Experience

• Aware of latest packaging sustainability trends, industry best practices and regulatory framework on recyclability, virgin plastic reduction/replacement and beyond.
• Proven track record of identifying consumer needs and packaging trends, transitioning from concept development and new technologies to delivering fully validated packaging components considering environmental sustainability objectives.
• Entrepreneurial mindset and willingness to run the program and projects as if it were your company.
• Subject Matter Expert on key packaging materials, formats and their transformation used by the product category (e.g., blisters, bottles, tubes, pumps, flexibles, etc.…).
• Strong record of identifying and utilizing external partnership to identify, develop and commercialize sustainable packaging innovation.
• Strong project management skills with experience in developing and managing multiple projects schedules, budgets, and timelines.

Strongly Preferred Experience

• Knowledge and previous experience managing packaging development projects for medical devices and/or regulated OTC packaging.
• Understanding of research methodologies to determine consumer insights and design thinking approach to build packaging innovation roadmap for the brands.
• Strong communication skills and a willingness to partner with business teams and co-works.
