Job Description

Your responsibilities

Are you a hands-on research physicist with a passion for cutting-edge technology and software development?

Then seize this opportunity and join CERN’s Experimental Physics (EP) Department, where you will take part in the development and construction of data acquisition and detector control systems for ATLAS Forward Detectors. As research physicist you will be associated with the ATLAS LUCID and Zero Degree Calorimeter (ZDC) detectors.

You will be responsible for development and maintenance of the software needed for the data acquisition and detector control systems and will provide expert support during ATLAS data taking. You will also support and develop, as needed, online monitoring tools to ensure correct operation of the detectors, associated Level-1 triggers, and real-time luminosity measurements. You may also provide software support for the development of the data acquisition electronics for upcoming upgrades to the LUCID and ZDC detectors at the HL-LHC.

About us

At CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, physicists and engineers are probing the fundamental structure of the universe. Using the world’s largest and most complex scientific instruments, they study the basic constituents of matter - fundamental particles that are made to collide together at close to the speed of light. The process gives physicists clues about how particles interact, and provides insights into the fundamental laws of nature. Find out more on http://home.cern.
