Job Description

The Novartis Institutes for BioMedical Research (NIBR) is the innovation engine of Novartis, focusing on powerful new technologies that have the potential to help produce therapeutic breakthroughs for patients in key diseases area.

The Pre-Clinical Neuroscience group in NIBR provides world class preclinical profiling and assessment for optimal drug discovery, with state-of-the-art compliance. We are now seeking an experienced Research or Senior Scientist level candidate with background in neuroscience, neuroinflammation, in-vivo pharmacology, histology and ex-vivo biology.

In collaboration with the Laboratory Head, the successful candidate will be involved in the profiling of candidate drugs in neuromuscular diseases. The applicant will perform in vivo experimentations in mice and rats to support preclinical projects using naive, KO, transgenic and various rodent models in neuroinflammatory and neurodegeneration to identify and validate novel targets. The role will involve running already established models and participation in the development of new paradigms and readouts including ex-vivo analyses.

Your responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
  • Plan, coordinate and conduct independently in vivo experimentations in mice and rats to support preclinical projects.
  • Run already established models and participation in the development of new paradigms and readouts, ex-vivo analyses and histology assessments.
  • Present data to Project Team meetings.
  • Record and archive experimental details with high level of quality, integrity and ethics.
  • Excellent collaborative and communication skills.

Minimum Requirements

What you will bring to the role:
  • MS or equivalent in Pharmaceutical Science, neuroscience, neurodegeneration and neuroinflammation expertise is a must have
  • Fluent in English
  • 5-10 years conducting in vivo experimentation and ex-vivo analysis including histology in the Neuroscience space
  • Ideally certified to LTK-1 level for in-vivo experimentation and animal handling
  • Please note that a PhD is not required for this position
  • Some restrictions on flexible working options may apply and will be discussed during interview if applicable.
