About the Role

Environmental, Social and Governmental Risks (ESG) are gaining more and more importance for the way how we steer and underwrite business in Swiss Re. This steering needs close collaboration of the underwriting community with the group Sustainability teams.

In this role you will be the main port of call for ESG topics in the Property & Casualty Centre and a key contributor to Swiss Re’s Sustainability strategy in underwriting. You will use your underwriting expertise and know-how in Group Sustainability projects and coordinate with P&C Centre experts and colleagues from other lines of business.

One of your key responsibilities will be the Sustainability Reporting Program, contributing to address reporting and regulatory requirements, like the implementation of the EU Taxonomy and the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD).

You will also work in the development of specific and actionable underwriting guidelines to fulfill Swiss Re’s decarbonization goals and supporting the underwriting teams in the implementation of these guidelines, including interactions with clients and brokers. You will as well contribute with underwriting perspectives to Swiss Re’s involvements in industry associations like PCAF and NZIA and with this help to shape the reinsurance industry contribution to a low carbon economy.

In addition to your main responsibility for ESG topics, you will be involved in other Centre tasks, which include portfolio steering and monitoring, referrals, underwriting tools and responsibility for underwriting standards, etc.

Your work will require demonstrating a deep understanding of reinsurance products, markets and tools together with the ability to analyze large data sets to support decision making, monitoring and reporting. You will need to communicate and collaborate effectively with colleagues with very a diverse set of backgrounds working in functions like sustainability, underwriting, risk management or finance.


About the Team

This position will be part of the Reinsurance Property Centre Team which is part of the Reinsurance Property and Casualty Centre.

About You

  • University degree preferably in Actuarial Sciences, Insurance Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, Computer Science, Energy Sciences or Environmental Sciences

  • Technical Property UW background with at least 5 years of experience. Underwriting knowledge in other lines of business in (Re)insurance will be an advantage

  • Excellent understanding of EU (RE)insurance markets

  • Knowledge of treaty underwriting approaches, processes and tools

  • Understanding of why de-carbonisation matters

  • Very good verbal and written communication in English; other languages are a plus

  • You grasp issues quickly and explain them in a simple way and strike a good balance between precision and pragmatism

  • You are able to translate data into practice

  • You easily connect with others, enjoy teamwork and exhibit at the same time strong accountability for duties
