Summary

The Upstream Scientist /Senior Scientist will be responsible for defining experimental designs in context of new process development, process characterization, Technology Transfer from donor site and to develop qualified downscale models at laboratory scale in collaboration with the Process Sciences teams. The Upstream Scientist / Senior Scientist will bring mammalian cell culture expertise to the Process Sciences laboratory and to Manufacturing during Technology Transfer and routine production.

Duties And Responsabilities
  • Provide cell culture scientific expertise to Manufacturing Technology, Manufacturing and Process Sciences
  • Be responsible for defining the upstream experimental designs or Design of Experiments (DOEs) in the context of process characterizations, process development and investigations.
  • Lead development and implementation of new upstream processes at laboratory scale.
  • Develop /adapt cell culture methods on cell counting instrument
  • Contribute to the execution of experiments at laboratory scale.
  • Lead the writing or review of laboratory protocols and summary reports.
  • Ensure that all upstream equipment are appropriately qualified and fit for purpose for development of downscale models and support to Manufacturing.
  • Represent Process Sciences as mammalian cell culture expert during Tech Transfers
  • Lead upstream downscale models development and qualification (that include 2-5L scale Bioreactors).
  • Lead upstream process risk assessments in the laboratory and support process risk assessments in upstream manufacturing.
  • Propose initiatives for process optimization or yield improvement
  • Act as a mentor to more junior team members and lead by example to ensure timely completion of laboratory objectives and proactively propose problem resolution.
  • Work closely with the Process Sciences development team in the USA
  • Contribute positively to a strong culture of business integrity and ethics
  • Act within compliance and legal requirements as well as within company guidelines
  • Delegate to PS Laboratory Manager
Requirements
  • Master degree from an Engineering school or University with relevant experience in a biotech or pharmaceutical environment.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience at laboratory scale in a development or a Biotech company environment.
  • Mammalian cell culture expertise
  • Experience with running small scale bioreactors (Sartorius or equivalent)
  • Basic statistical knowledge and/or experience in the definition of Design of Experiments (DOEs).
  • French and English (Fluent)
  • Ability to work in a fast paced – highly regulated environment
  • Team work oriented mindset
