NVIDIA is building Earth-2, or E-2, an initiative to accelerate production of digitals twin of the Earth combining GPU-accelerated computing; deep learning and breakthroughs in physics-informed neural networks; machine learning emulation of physics predictions, along with vast quantities of observed and model data to learn from. NVIDIA’s Modulus, a physics-informed machine learning (physics-ML) framework for scientific computing, enables a full suite of AI-based weather and climate prediction models such as our in-house open-source model called FourCastNet (FCN).
NVIDIA’s FourCastNet is pioneering the AI revolution in weather and climate prediction. It is a data-driven, generative AI-based weather forecasting model that matches the accuracy of the gold standard in numerical weather prediction– ECMWF’s Integrated Forecasting System–but runs orders-of-magnitude faster and more energy-efficiently. FourCastNet combines the latest advances in transformers and neural operators, bringing together the best of AI and physics. It’s the first of a wave of data-driven, AI-based weather prediction models poised to revolutionize the enterprise of weather and climate prediction. NVIDIA aims at harnessing the power of artificial intelligence to substantially accelerate climate science. The Climate and Sustainability Solution Architect team will support efforts in the fields of climate modeling, mitigation, monitoring, adaptation, disaster response, and weather-extremes. Solution architects will work closely with academic research, operational climate/weather centers, and industrial customers. In the context of this large effort led by NVIDIA, we are looking for a passionate, hard-working, and creative customer facing Climate Data Scientist to support these efforts.
What you’ll be doing:
  • Support customers in using our products. Help developing solutions aligned with customer’s requirements
  • Support Business Development teams. Work with academic research, public sector organizations and industrial customers to support the development of use-cases and digital twins based on NV technology
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest AI/ML/Digital Twin innovations
  • Deliver trainings, hackathons, demos and conference presentations on results using NVIDIA GPUs and platforms
What we need to see:
  • AI/ML expertise, MS/PhD degree in Climate Science (Climate, Weather, Ocean), Earth Systems, Climate Physics, Climate Analysis or related technical field
  • 5+ years of industrial or academic experience with good programming skills (Python and/or C/C++)
  • Experience in handling climate and weather data, scientific/engineering simulations, digital twin skills
  • Experience in developing or using major deep learning frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, Tensorflow etc)
  • Familiarity with containers, numerical libraries, modular software design, version control
  • Willingness to learn NVIDIA platforms, in particular NVIDIA Modulus and NVIDIA Omniverse
  • Solid written and oral communications skills and familiarity with collaborative environments
  • Team players, creative abilities, can learn and adapt quickly
Ways to stand out from the crowd:
  • Hands-on experience using HPC systems, coding in CUDA and/or OpenACC
  • Experience in digital twin technologies
  • Experience tackling Climate Change with Machine Learning
  • Experience in industrial applications of the climate science to climate-tech, risk modeling, agri-tech, financial sectors, weather forecasting, renewables
  • Running, analyzing or visualizing output from comprehensive Earth System Models
NVIDIA is one of the technology industry’s most desirable employers. If you’re a creative person with a genuine passion for AI and willing to contribute to Society’s Climate Change challenge, we want to hear from you. NVIDIA is committed to fostering a diverse work environment and proud to be an equal opportunity employer. We encourage diversity in candidates’ profiles. If you think you have the relevant skills and experience for this job, we encourage you to apply even if you lack some of the requirements listed above.
