Job Responsibilities
The Lead Hardware Engineer is responsible for the team carrying out HW analysis, design, parts integration, and test activities. Knowledge should include experience in sub-systems in the radio frequency, the digital domain, the power supply and the satellite domain. The tasks include working closely with other Line Managers and Project Managers in order to assist in project planning, scheduling, and risk assessment activities with clear responsibilities and impact on the project’s results.
The person in this role is asked to lead a dynamic group of hardware engineers supporting them in projects from initial requirement’s through design and implementation to testing and delivery. A major role for the Lead Hardware Engineer is to plan and implement a continuous learning for his team, paying special attention to new technological topics, part of the Viasat Roadmap but not necessarily already tackled in ongoing projects. The Lead Hardware Engineer should be a proven leader, capable of understanding, motivating and supporting the team while influencing and collaborating with other globally distributed teams across the organization. The selected candidate will champion the Viasat culture and values creating and promoting an inclusive and collaborative environment within own team and across the organisation
Requirements:
- BS/MSc in Electrical Engineering or related field (Physics, CS)
- 10+ year’s in Hardware Engineering
- 8+ years proven experience in leading a small group in an international environment
- Excellent interpersonal, and written and oral communication skill
- Good understanding of AC & DC power supply design and requirements
- Familiarity with RF component functions such as mixer, amplifiers, up-down converters and phase shifters
- Proven track record of digital circuit development, including but not limited to, Microprocessor/FPGA based systems and Power Supplies
- Experience in DC-DC converters, operational amplifiers, comparators, bipolar transistors, buffers, DAC’s, ADC’s, power MOSFET’s, and gate drivers and applying this technology to support RF/microwave and digital hardware
- Strong documentation skills and an ability to report on technical solutions and findings
- Design for Test (DFT) and Design for Manufacture (DFM) methodologies and techniques
- Familiarity with product certification, regulatory compliance and volume manufacturing
- Familiarity with test equipment such as oscilloscopes, current probes, frequency response analyzer, and multimeters
- Ability to understand end-to-end systems and solve issues.
- Analytical skills and interest, able and inclined to learn new diverse material at a fast pace
Preferences:
- Experience of design and qualification for harsh/rugged environments (e.g. airborne)
- Experience with real time C++ development
- Knowledge of Linux based systems
- Knowledge of Git-based workflow
- Good computer skills (Python, Matlab, C/C++, Verilog/VHDL)
- Software development experience
- Agile (Configuration Management Database)
- Board layout tools (Mentor Graphics Expedition, Zuken)
- SharePoint
- Solidworks 3D
- DxDesigner
- JIRA
- JAMA
