About ACP Retro Structuring

The P&C and L&H Retro structuring teams, based in Zurich and London, are responsible for all Retrocession and Underwriting Hedging aspects from a Group perspective. When ceding risk in securities form, we work closely with our ILS colleagues. We have two key mandates which involve proactively managing Group Risk Limits and Capital.

On the first, ensuring that the Group remains within its Risk Limits, our activities are focused on the Group’s peak exposures (e.g. Nat Cat, extreme mortality etc) and finding efficient and sustainable ways to transfer these exposures to Alternative Capital or to other (re)insurers.

On the second we aim to find efficient sources of (underwriting) capital below the Group’s Weighted Average Cost of Capital (WACC) by transferring underwriting risk off the Group Balance Sheet. Peak exposures are also in focus for this second mandate (as they are often important drivers of Group Capital Requirements). However capital optimisation also involves further consideration of longer tail lines of business and risks (such as mortality trend, casualty etc) as these are also important drivers of overall capital requirements (e.g. under the Swiss Solvency Test (SST)).
