THE POSITION

As our Technology Manager, Biofuels, your main responsibilities will be to:

• Actively support the origination & screening of opportunities within renewables manufacturing and develop the relevant ones up to a mature business case. You will play an active role in the implementation of our strategy leading to the transformation of the company.

• Your focus will be on biofuels manufacturing processes from solid biomass and how it offers interesting opportunities for VARO to play a leading role in this space. You will be working closely with the Strategy & M&A team, feedstock development team, our refineries and external partners.

• You will support the VP Biogas and his Team in the development and implementation of the One Varo Biogas Strategy. For this key pillar you will be leading technology and front end development (Identify & Assess) for new greenfield projects and M&A targets. You will as provide support to existing Varo biogas plants.

You will be part of the VP New Technologies & Renewable Manufacturing Team and report to the Head of Biofuels Technology

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Be the biogas/biomethane technology and front end development (Identify & Assess) “Go To” person for VARO. Review and track biogas manufacturing technologies

• Provide technology and front end development support to other solid biomass based biofuels projects and M&A

• Support the origination & screening of business opportunities from a technology standpoint

• Support the conceptual development of grassroots investment projects and support engineering teams during FEED phases

• Evaluate biofuels technologies and take technology ownership through evaluation and development phases

• Further responsibilities according to your profile and development interests

YOUR PROFILE

• A university degree in Chemical Engineering or similar discipline

• Minimum 5 years’ experience in technology/engineering roles in industry or engineering consultancy

• Experience from working in investment projects

• Good understanding of the energy industry’s strategic drivers, their impacts and how they are changing going forward

• Prior experience with biofuels technology is seen as a plus, but not a prerequisite

• Excellent English language skills (spoken and written)

• A genuine interest in understanding how things work, and a broad general understanding of industrial unit operations

• Knowledge of fundamental thermodynamics, chemistry, fluid dynamics etc.

• Excellent analytical thinking and ability to explain complicated concepts to management level audience

• Ability to work independently, creating the relevant tools, metrics and standards when none are available

• Personal initiative and proactive management of responsibilities, challenges and opportunities

• Result-oriented and “hands-on” mentality with capacity to go into the details and also to take a helicopter view
