This position is located in the eTrade Initiatives Section of the E-Commerce and Digital Economy Branch, Division on Trade and Logistics. The Associate Programme Management Officer reports to the Chief of the eTrade Initiatives Section. The focus of the job is the implementation of programmes, operations, and other activities relating to partnership, outreach, and multi-stakeholder activities in the field of e-commerce and the digital economy.

Within delegated authority, the Associate Programme Management Officer will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Works with key clients to facilitate the development, implementation, and outreach of assigned programmes, projects, and activities organized in the framework of the UNCTAD-led eTrade for all initiative; monitors and analyzes specific aspects of project development and implementation; reviews relevant documents and reports; identifies problems and issues to be addressed and recommends corrective actions; liaises with relevant partners and focal points; identifies and tracks follow-up actions.
  • Carries out basic research on selected aspects of activities undertaken in the framework of the eTrade for all initiative, including collecting, analyzing, and presenting inputs and other information gathered from diverse sources and partners as they pertain to e-commerce and the digital economy for development.
  • Assists in performing consulting assignments by planning and facilitating workshops or other interactive sessions, and assisting in developing action plans with and for eTrade for all partners.
  • Contributes to the preparation of various written outputs, e.g. draft background papers, analytical notes, sections of reports and studies, and inputs to publications on e-commerce and the digital economy.
  • Drafts/compiles various communication products (e.g. print, broadcast, digital, etc.), for target audiences, such as press and news items, report digests, briefings, video clips, podcasts, newsletters, blog posts, website publishing, social media, etc., highlighting the need for a more inclusive digital economy.
  • Provides administrative and substantive support to consultative and other meetings, gatherings, or conferences, like the UNCTAD eWeek, to include agenda topics, identifying and proposing participants, preparation of background documents and presentations, handling logistics, etc.
  • Undertakes outreach activities in the framework of the eTrade for all initiative, including for raising the profile of the eTrade for all platform; participates in the development of training workshops, seminars, etc.; participates in and makes presentations on assigned topics/activities. Co-manages the Twitter handle of the E-Commerce and Digital Economy Branch and leads social media strategy for the Section.
  • Contributes to activities related to budget funding (programme/project preparation and submissions, progress reports, financial statements, etc.) and preparation of related documents/reports (pledging, work programme, programme budget, etc.).
  • Performs other duties as required.
