JOB PURPOSE

This is a great opportunity for a high potential individual to join AFEMEA, Amcor Flexibles Europe Middle East & Africa, with €3bn of sales and over 50 plants across 18 countries, as a Manager in its Strategy and M&A team. The team is small but has a high profile supporting AFEMEA’s strategic agenda working on portfolio projects such as acquisitions and divestments as well as organic growth projects. The role reports directly into the VP Strategy, M&A and Integration who is a member of AFEMEA’s Leadership Team with responsibility for AFEMEA’s M&A agenda, a range of strategic projects and its annual strategic plan.

The team is responsible for:

  • Developing and stewarding the strategy for AFEMEA including both organic and inorganic growth
  • Developing a target list of potential acquisition targets and prosecuting against these
  • Leading the annual strategy cycle for AFEMEA
  • Leading and/or supporting Business Unit (BU) and Functional strategic initiatives

JOB DIMENSIONS & SCOPE

Scope of responsibility is Amcor’s business in Europe, Middle East and Africa. The role will be based in Zurich.


Internal Stakeholders:

  • VP Strategy M&A Integration & team
  • AFEMEA Leadership team
  • Central Functions, especially Corporate Strategy Development Group (SDG)

Amcor has a track record of externally recruiting high potential talent into its Strategy and M&A team and then promoting into other internal roles within Europe and globally.


PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

AFEMEA is looking to hire an individual with 5+ years of experience, including management of M&A transactions and strategic projects.


Key responsibilities include both M&A and strategy projects:

  • Identify and track acquisition opportunities across AFEMEA;
  • Manage the acquisition process from identification through relationship building & due diligence to deal completion
  • Provide full support on all aspects of transaction evaluation and execution
  • Construct detailed business cases including financial modelling analysis
  • Build relationships, manage and coordinate internal stakeholders and external advisors on transactions
  • Prepare senior management and board papers to review progress and approve transactions
  • Coordinate transaction documentation in conjunction with senior team members and internal and external legal counsels to ensure appropriate contractual arrangements.
  • Support deal process and negotiation preparation including strategy development and drafting of documents such as term sheets, MOUs, offer letters etc
  • Support the annual AFEMEA Strategic Plan process
  • Lead strategic projects across functions and Business Units
  • Develop strategic thinking capabilities across AFEMEA
  • Define and review strategic choices making clear recommendations to AFEMEA’s leadership team

MAJOR CHALLENGES & COMPLEXITIES

Within this role you will gain significant exposure to business leaders and have the opportunity to forge a strong international network within the organisation. Given the nature of the projects, at times the environment can be especially demanding including tight deadlines and pressured situations.


QUALIFICATIONS/ REQUIREMENTS

  • At least 5 years’ experience of direct M&A experience including hands-on execution experience at a leading investment bank, boutique advisor, private equity form or accounting firm
  • Master’s or MBA (preferred)
  • Track record of being able to motivate action within a complex corporate environment
  • Packaging experience is useful but not a prerequisite
  • Strong team player with good interpersonal / influencing skills
  • Commercial mind-set and ability to quickly understand a business, its key drivers and challenges
  • Strong presentation skills supported by excellent communication and problem-solving capabilities
  • Able to deliver Leadership Team and Board ready materials that succinctly communicate key messages
  • Self-starter, able to work autonomously, manage multiple tasks and prioritise successfully
  • Ambitious, motivated and possess a desire to succeed and outperform
  • Fluent in English – other European languages would be a strong benefit
