ADM’s global Nutrition business is represented by Human Nutrition, Health & Wellness and Animal Nutrition divisions. The Health & Wellness and Animal Nutrition Research teams are present in 4 locations (Spain, North America, France and Switzerland) and focus on developing cutting-edge technological and science-based products.
The successful candidate will report to the Health & Wellness Microbiome director and will be based in Switzerland. The candidate will take a key role within the team, working across microbiology and omics technologies to enrich our microbial biobank and accelerate the discovery and development of innovative and science-based microbiome solutions for human, pet and monogastric animals which will differentiate ADM on the Human, Pet and Animal Microbiome markets.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Manage microbial biobank (reception, registration, criostock preparation and preservation, sample preparations for intra- and inter-site dispatch)
  • Use omics technologies and data to understand microbial genotypes, connections between microbial genotype and phenotype, and accelerate the discovery of microorganisms, enzymes, and metabolic pathways
  • Leverage your expertise to secure continuous insourcing of publicly & privately available microbial biobanks relevant for human, pet, livestock and aqua applications
  • Lead the discussions with identified biobank sources, the mandatory legal and regulatory biobank checks, and the legal process required for biobank insourcing, in close coordination with R&D, regulatory and legal teams
  • Communicate experimental and project progress to the leadership team
  • Generate scientific content for manuscripts, meetings and conferences
  • BSL2 lab operational management and QC, SOP writing and updating
  • Prepare for internal / customer/ regulatory inspections
  • Ensure efficient and productive workflows within the team
  • Scouting and evaluating the latest relevant technologies and techniques
  • Support the development of our external R&D ecosystem building high level relationships with reliable partners (scientists and customers)

Your Profile:

  • Ph.D. degree in microbiology, molecular biology, strain development, bioengineering or related fields
  • 5+ years of R&D experience in microbiology, molecular biology, strain development, preferably in large companies
  • Direct experience with microbiology and molecular biology techniques in BSL2 lab environment
  • Expertise in microbial strain evolution, genetic manipulation of microorganisms, metabolic engineering and gene regulation, and a knack for meaningful visualization of data are a plus
  • Expertise in library preparations for next generation sequencing (Sanger and Illumina), analyzing and integrating genomics data, genome assembling, prediction, and annotation, processing datasets using high-performance clustering
  • Direct experience with regulatory requirements for microbial strain registrations
  • Proven innovator, with a track record of developing new ideas through collaboration and translating strategic direction into tactical execution in a team-driven environment
  • Executive level communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with others in a global context
  • Availability to travel up to 20% of the time, Domestic and International
