What We Do

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) works worldwide to provide humanitarian assistance to people affected by conflict and armed violence. We take action in response to emergencies and at the same time promote respect for international humanitarian law. We are an independent and neutral organization, and our mandate stems essentially from the Geneva Conventions of 1949. We work closely with National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and with their International Federation in order to ensure a concerted, rational and rapid humanitarian response to the needs of the victims of armed conflict or any other situation of internal violence. We direct and coordinate the international activities conducted in these situations.

Purpose of the position

The Finance Business Partner (FBP) ensures that Finance strategies and objectives are aligned with the objectives and needs of the IT division, and the Enterprise Project Management Office (EPMO). S/he provides a service at the level of the IT run and investments. S/he is recognized as an expert on all Finance related matters and shares intelligence and insights on Finance with the Métier management team for ensuring Finance strategies are aligned to the Métier’s objectives and needs. To be successful, the role mixes both analytical and communication skills to understand the audience and deliver the information in a clear and user-friendly manner

Main Duties And Responsibilities
  • Acts as a strategic partner on Finance matters, leads ICRC’s controlling strategy and is accountable for its delivery and implementation across the IT division and the EPMO
  • Is a strategic partner of the management team of the IT division and takes active part in reflection, analysis and understanding of the Métier’s environment and Finance’s needs
  • Partners closely with the CIO providing KPIs, management reporting, and analysis to drive insights, financial facts and make recommendations for strategic decision
  • Ensures control of run IT costs in both field and headquarters, and proposes optimization measures
  • Acts as a trusted partner for the EPMO by providing financial expertise on the Tech & Data projects, delivering financial analysis, and scenarios for strategic decisions
  • Accountable for developing global financial analysis and KPIs in all locations (headquarters, field, and shared service centers), providing options and scenarios for financially sound decisions that consider risks and opportunities
  • Accountable for working with the Métier to deliver the financial forecasts and budgets
  • Develops, supports, and leads the implementation (with evidence-based data and the support of FAD such as BPOs and centers of expertise) appropriate Finance strategies that closely support the IT’s and Digital data’s strategic objectives
  • Ensures compliance with finance policies (IFRS / IAS38), procedures and supports the design, development, preparation, and automation of management reports both for the IT division and the EPMO
  • Interprets and deals with incomplete data, and exercise judgement where there is ambiguity

Relationships
  • Seamless interaction with Heads of units and various managers from Finance, IT division, EPMO and Tech & Data board
  • Engages with staff in both field and HQ, including Shared Service Centers on the deliverables and their experience
  • Availability to undertake field missions in places where ICRC operates to gain best understanding of the operational reality as well as to engage with the users and managers of finance and IT services

Education And Experience Required
  • Typically, 12-15 years of overall professional experience
  • Degree in economics, finance, business administration or equivalent
  • Experience in budgeting, controlling, forecasting and financial analysis
  • Experience in an international non-profit or corporate multinational environment
  • Exposure to IFRS and finance international norms in general
  • Exposure to sectors where products and services costing methodologies are used (target costing, ABC, etc.)
  • Financial knowledge with analytical skills as well as exposure to project management framework
  • Knowledge of Microsoft POWER BI is an asset
  • Computer proficiency and interest in new technologies
  • Fluent command of English and French, other ICRC official working langue is an asset
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and stakeholder management skills
