Who We Are

We are Emerging Technologies and Incubations (ET&I) at Cisco. We are chartered to build the next new business for Cisco. We take Cisco into new markets, and especially towards new personas—both buyer and user.

Like building a startup from the ground up, we believe it’s all about having an entrepreneurial approach. We take ideas from astonishing thought to a product that solves a critical need, then deliver an experience that delights users and customers. ET&I is about innovation. We look from 12 months out to five years in the future, wearing multiple hats, failing and learning fast, challenging assumptions and finding new ways of solving problems. Driving form from ambiguity. It’s about creativity. We are looking for entrepreneurs and problem solvers, whether as designers & marketers, product-led growth experts, business development, SDRs, or customer success experts. We’re always looking for product managers, data scientists, and ML engineers, too.

Yes, we are building the next set of startups with the support of a trusted name like Cisco. Where else will you get to do this? We are Cisco ET&I. We run bold, we run agile, and we run ambitious. Come create with us.

What You’ll Do

As a Full Stack Software Engineer, you will work on various incubation projects. You will be part of a team which develops new MVPs and products that will be scaled out and taken to market to make a meaningful difference for Cisco and the industry. Specifically, you will:

  • Design, develop, test and maintain a variety of applications and services,
  • Integrate applications using API-led and cloud-first architectural design patterns, with in-house custom applications and third-party SaaS providers,
  • Contribute to a sustainable code base and a stable, scalable product,
  • Write reusable code and libraries.
We cover the full stack, so you can start the day fixing a JavaScript bug, hack on the API over lunch, and investigate database performance issues before heading home. Or if you like, take some time to focus on delivering a new feature. This team does it all, so you’ll never be bored, and you’ll constantly be learning new technologies.

Who You’ll Work With

The Emerging Technologies and Incubation (ET&I) team is a highly visible group which reports directly to Cisco’s CEO. ET&I focuses on the next wave of innovation by anticipating, investing in, and incubating new technologies and business ventures.

Our team develops new products and bring them to market in a startup-like environment.

Who You Are

We’re looking for a Full Stack Software Engineer that enjoys wearing many hats, a self-starter that’s willing to jump headfirst into the codebase and start creating or improving it immediately. If you’ve tried a few different web stacks and have your favorites, that’s a good sign!

  • 3 to 5 years of demonstrated proficiency in application development using languages/frameworks such as JavaScript, NodeJS, Python, Java, Go, React, Angular,
  • Database design experience: SQL and/or NoSQL,
  • Cloud Native experience: Docker Containers, Kubernetes Orchestration, Providers (AWS, GCP),
  • Experience of CI & CD, release management, Git Flows, Scrum methodology,
  • Experience in working with Pub/Sub frameworks like Apache Kafka is a plus,
  • Ability to take ownership of tasks with minimal supervision,
  • Experience of working in a fast-paced agile environment,
  • You get things done and never give up. You are biased towards execution and delivery – taking on what needs to be done and owning it through to the end and beyond,
  • Fluent in written and spoken English.

Why Cisco

#WeAreCisco, where each person is unique, but we bring our talents to work as a team and make a difference powering an inclusive future for all.

We embrace digital, and help our customers implement change in their digital businesses. Some may think we’re “old” (36 years strong) and only about hardware, but we’re also a software company. And a security company. We even invented an intuitive network that adapts, predicts, learns and protects. No other company can do what we do –you can’t put us in a box!

But “Digital Transformation” is an empty buzz phrase without a culture that allows for innovation, creativity, and yes, even failure (if you learn from it.)

Day to day, we focus on the give and take. We give our best, give our egos a break, and give of ourselves (because giving back is built into our DNA.) We take accountability, bold steps, and take difference to heart. Because without diversity of thought and a dedication to equality for all, there is no moving forward.

So, you have colorful hair? Don’t care. Tattoos? Show off your ink. Like polka dots? That’s cool. Pop culture geek? Many of us are. Passion for technology and world changing? Be you, with us.

We recognize that diverse teams make the strongest teams, and we encourage people from all backgrounds to apply.

When available, the salary range posted for this position reflects the projected hiring range for new hire, full-time salaries in U.S. locations, not including equity or benefits. For non-sales roles the hiring ranges reflect base salary only; employees are also eligible to receive annual bonuses. Hiring ranges for sales positions include base and incentive compensation target. Individual pay is determined by the candidate’s hiring location and additional factors, including but not limited to skillset, experience, and relevant education, certifications, or training. Applicants may not be eligible for the full salary range based on their U.S. hiring location. The recruiter can share more details about compensation for the role in your location during the hiring process.

U.S. employees have access to quality medical, dental and vision insurance, a 401(k) plan with a Cisco matching contribution, short and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance and numerous wellbeing offerings. Employees receive up to twelve paid holidays per calendar year, which includes one floating holiday, plus a day off for their birthday. We offer additional paid time to volunteer and give back to the community. Employees are also able to purchase company stock through our Employee Stock Purchase Program.

Employees on sales plans earn performance-based incentive pay on top of their base salary, which is split between quota and non-quota components. For quota-based incentive pay, Cisco pays at the standard rate of 1% of incentive target for each 1% revenue attainment against the quota up to 100%. Once performance exceeds 100% quota attainment, incentive rates may increase up to five times the standard rate with no cap on incentive compensation. For non-quota-based sales performance elements such as strategic sales objectives, Cisco may pay up to 125% of target. Cisco sales plans do not have a minimum threshold of performance for sales incentive compensation to be paid.
