What You’ll Do

The AstraZeneca EUCAN Government Affairs & Policy Manager will support the development and delivery of government affairs and policy shaping activities to drive business objectives and increase patient access across AstraZeneca’s key therapy areas in EUCAN, as well as proactively position AZ as an innovation leader and trusted partner in the region.

As part of a high-performing team, you will play a critical role in developing, coordinating and implementing multi-faceted advocacy/influencing strategies and initiatives to promote, support, and/or defend primary business goals and policy objectives, in close partnership with global, regional and market-based teams across Commercial, Medical Affairs and Corporate Affairs Functions. You will also support strategic planning and coordination of Government Affairs & Policy activities across the EUCAN region.

The role is based full-time in Baar, Switzerland and reports directly to the Associate Director, Government Affairs & Policy, Europe & Canada, part of the EUCAN Corporate Affairs team within AstraZeneca’s Global Corporate Affairs Function.

Key Accountabilities

  • Support development and implementation of government affairs & policy strategies to drive AZ’s therapy area priorities in alignment with global, regional and local cross functional teams, focusing on AZ’s Biopharmaceuticals Business Unit.
  • Assist in analysing, developing and delivering recommendations, messaging and positioning on key policies and issues impacting AZ’s portfolio and business.
  • Coordinate projects and partnerships with internal and external stakeholders and vendors, e.g. develop policy messaging and evidence, reports, advocacy tools and convene roundtables and Advisory Boards, in order to build support for AZ policy priorities.
  • Identify key internal/external opportunities and platforms to support AZ MCs and therapy areas and support in developing briefings for senior internal stakeholders
  • Build relationships with key patient groups, pan-European health organisations and other public policy stakeholders
  • Support communications and capability building and develop tools to share and enhance good practices and relevant government affairs initiatives across the EUCAN region.
  • Assist in engagement and communication with Regional GA and Policy networks (including virtual and face to face meetings, delivery of GA and Policy workshops).

To be successful in this role we think the following experience is essential:

  • Proven experience in Government Affairs / Public Policy, preferably in the healthcare/pharmaceutical sector (e.g. industry, trade association, government/public sector, patient organisations)
  • Strong interpersonal and verbal and written communication skills, including ability to present complex ideas clearly for non-expert audiences
  • Strong business acumen, project management and organizational skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a diverse and geographically dispersed team and across functions, including in the absence of direct reporting relationships
  • Ability to understand and influence issues and decision-makers in complicated and complex situations and create shared agendas
  • Significant understanding and appreciation of political environment, policy issues and governments in Europe.
  • Problem solving - ability to resolve conflict and deal with a wide range of complex problems independently.
  • Ability to demonstrate creativity and innovation in strategy and execution, finding the right balance in working strategically and operationally, ability to work well under pressure and enjoys a fast-paced, often unpredictable environment.
