The site in Visp is growing and for a new microbial mid-scale facility in Ibex™ Solutions, our unique biological manufacturing and development concept in Visp, Switzerland, we are currently looking for a Head Upstream Processing (USP). In this role, you will manage on day-to-day basis the operational start-up activities of our new facility in USP by leading multidisciplinary teams to ensure a timely start of commercial activities. You will manage interface between Engineering and Operational units to guarantee a smooth operational start-up from commissioning, IQ, OQ, PQ to commercial production.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manages a team of production leaders, supervisors and specialists with full responsibility for all aspects of human resource management such as qualification, development, coaching, hiring, pay decisions and discipline issues.
  • Responsible for resource and vacation planning of the assigned team members with regard to the fulfillment of all production orders.
  • Ensures a good information exchange from the upper management levels to his/her team and the other way around through regularly team meetings and escalation of production issues.
  • Implements the LONZA culture via openness for change and new ideas, cooperative teamwork and continuous improvement even outside his/her own area of responsibility.
  • Working as production expert in Capital investment projects for building and commissioning of the manufacturing units. Main responsible for delivering all input required for the specific set-up, commissioning and qualification of the manufacturing suites and equipment including automation.
  • Responsible for regular performance control such as weekly report, dashboard, Hoshin Board and other reporting tools incl. definition of appropriate actions for performance enhancing.
  • Deputy of the head of manufacturing during his/her absence.
  • Representing the operational area in customer meetings, audits and regulatory inspections.
  • Ensures the technical availability of the manufacturing suites and equipment through fulfillment of all safety, environmental and compliance requirements.
  • Executes innovation and improvement projects comprising general manufacturing aspects for the production plant.

Key Requirements

  • Master or Bachelor degree in Biotechnology, Bioengineering, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or related disciplines
  • Significant experience in a leading position in Biopharma manufacturing of large molecules
  • Recognized expertise and experience in Project Management, PMI or Green Belt will be an advantage
  • Strong leadership skills and ability to communicate internally and externally at higher levels
  • Very good understanding of business and financial processes
  • Detail oriented with exceptional organizational skills and a structured and proactive working attitude
  • Open-minded for new ideas with a highly collaborative and strong team oriented attitude
  • Fluent in English, German a plus
