The PositionRoche Pharma Research and Early Development (pRED) is currently seeking an intern with a background in cellular biology and bioengineering to join their Investigative and Immune Safety department in Basel, Switzerland. The department is dedicated to the development of innovative in vitro systems for assessing drug safety and efficacy.Complex in vitromodels of the vasculature are versatile systems that can be applied to various areas and stages of the drug development process and facilitate highly physiological and relevant readouts such as safety, efficacy, and pharmacokinetics/pharmacodynamics (PKPD). Furthermore these systems can provide highly relevant readouts of immune cell adhesion and transmigration. The team has developed an innovative and robust microvascular platform on organoid vascularization, which is being used to support portfolio projects within pRED.As an intern, you’ll work with a highly specialized team focused on developing advanced human cellular models of the tumor microenvironment, with a particular emphasis on the vasculature. You’ll gain hands-on experience with cutting-edge organ-on-chip platforms and various 2D and 3D cell culture setups. You’ll also have the opportunity to help expand the use of the microvascular platform and leverage the generated in vitro data which is essential in supporting decision-making processes for molecules in Roche’s drug development pipeline. The role of the internship studentAs an intern, you will mainly be involved in wet lab activities around the vascular model. You’ll assemble and maintain the system, apply portfolio molecules, and use techniques like immunostainings, microscopy, cytokine measurements, and FACS. You’ll also analyze experiments using image quantification and FlowJo. It’s a unique opportunity to gain real-world experience in a state-of-the-art lab and contribute to cutting-edge drug therapiesMain tasks
