The Nutrition Sciences department, one of the six research departments in Nestlé Institute of Health Sciences, focuses on the nutrition and diets of our consumers in relation to health and well-being. We study food intakes around the world and apply this understanding to improve our product portfolio, generate new innovations and help to improve how the diets and nutrition of consumers of all ages contribute to nutrient status and health outcomes.

As a Junior Scientist you will provide expertise in cellular mechanisms of aging and intra-cellular quality control.

You will demonstrate a deep understanding of autophagy and lysosomal degradation pathways. You will execute experiments to test the effects of natural Bioactives on cellular energy metabolism through improved intracellular quality control. This includes experimental procedures as well as their analyses, interpretation and presentation to experts and non-experts.

A day in the life of a Junior Scientist - Data Sciences and Precision Nutrition
  • Contribute to the progress of scientific projects through guidance and expert advice in the space of cellular metabolism, autophagy and the use of zebrafish and c. elegans as preclinical platform
  • Build and document knowledge and share about latest methods, trends, and developments in relevant field of activity
  • Be a main driver for product concepts and the associated evidence development strategy around autophagy, lysosomes mitochondria and broad health benefits for consumers and patients
  • Participate in the generation, communication and archiving of generated data
  • Communicate with project team, including project managers, resource needs and timelines
  • Support knowledge transfer to business units through proactivity and excellent communication skills
  • Master the use of phenotyping techniques for mitochondrial function and autophagy and to guide other scientists for best practice and efficient evidence development
  • Broad understanding of Scientific, Technology, Quality and Safety and Environment knowledge.
  • Develop related tools and competencies in the domain of activity.
  • Build, promote and define ideas and concepts at the R&D center level and towards key business stakeholders
  • Coordinate laboratory maintenance tasks and experimental strategies within the team and with collaborators

What Will Make You Successful
  • PhD in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry or Metabolic Health research
  • Experience in translational research is a strong plus
  • Efficient working and passion for science
  • Ability to work in teams
  • Excellent written and oral presentation skills in English (scientific and non-scientific audiences)
  • Proven problem solving and solution finding mindset
  • Good data interpretation skills & interpersonal/teamwork skills
