Supply Chain Procurement, for Johnson and Johnson is an organization responsible for the procurement of direct raw materials and external manufactured finished goods across the three sectors Pharmaceutical, Medical Devices and Consumer Health globally. The Function has created a Strategy and Deployment team to drive the Journey To Value (JTV) transformational journey within supply chain procurement and to enhance Cost Engineer principles, technology, data, and analytics capabilities, building on existing successful initiatives and expanding on new ones across all sectors.

Reporting to the Director of Strategy & Deployment and Cost Engineering, the Manager, Cost Engineering Supply Chain Procurement is responsible for establishing cost engineering benchmarks, completing detailed supplier price / cost analytics to support Strategic Sourcing in negotiation strategy development and face to face supplier negotiations. Manager is also responsible for leading complex cost engineering initiatives and lead the strategic planning for development of competitive market strategies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead, review, and prepare cost benchmarks for various commodities, assemblies, and tooling across Med Tech, Consumer Health, and Pharmaceutical business segments.
  • Analyze product specifications to prepare accurate global cost benchmarks utilizing available data (part weights, cycle time, scrap, machine rates, labor rates, manufacturing related overheads, and capacity).
  • Develop and propose detailed design and material recommendations for cost improvements and their associated benefits.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional team to establish the business need and facilitate the development of a strategic plan to address the cost opportunity(s) identified through the cost modeling process, utilizing strategic cost management principles.
  • Partner and align with Supply Chain Procurement to drive detailed cost/price negotiations with suppliers.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to understand material and manufacturing cost drivers for Primary and Secondary Packaging.
  • Provide periodic training to supply chain partners on cost management principals and various manufacturing processes.
  • Track various supplier cost transparency data to establish industry-based analytics benchmarks.
  • Work with Sourcing teams to plan and develop strategic competitive market engagement strategies.

Education

Qualifications
  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering is required (preferably in Manufacturing, Mechanical, Industrial or Chemical Engineering)
  • A Master’s or Advanced degree is preferred

Required Skills & Experience
  • A minimum of 8 years work experience in a manufacturing environment with detailed process knowledge of any mechanical, chemical and/or packaging technologies
  • A broad knowledge of mechanical, chemical and / or packaging manufacturing processes
  • Negotiation skills, with the ability to create fact-based rationales
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects in a complex, highly matrix, virtual, organization where priorities change rapidly, and tight deadlines exist
  • Proven interpersonal, relational, and communication skills to align with key value chain stakeholders & partners.
  • Individual shall be required to take ownership for projects, align on cost management principals, and clearly explain technical process data to key stakeholders
  • Proficient with MS Office applications.
  • Influencing skills and ability to challenge the status quo, with demonstrated success in developing business cases.
  • Demonstrated people leadership and communication in a diverse and inclusive environment.
  • Proficient in English (Written and spoken)

Preferred Skills & Experience
  • Knowledge of cost modeling, quoting, estimating, or sales engineering in a manufacturing company
  • An understanding of activity-based cost accounting principles to provide product cost modeling & analytics for procured materials and products
  • Significant experience with MS Excel, Minitab, SQL, and Tableau
  • Experience in information system and data & analytics initiatives
  • Multi-language skills
  • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt

  • The role may be based on the following J&J campus locations in West Chester, PA, USA, Raritan, NJ, USA, or Solothurn, Switzerland and will require up to 20% domestic and/or international travel.
