Role / Responsibilities:Pharma Partnering is comprised of Business Development and Alliance Management, which are a diverse group of professionals who apply scientific, financial and negotiating expertise to establish and maintain collaborations and other strategically important transactions (such as M+A, option deals, new company formation, etc.) in support of gRED, pRED and PD/GPS mission.Reporting to the Global Head of Oncology, Pharma Partnering, (South San Francisco, USA) the Oncology Basel Site Head will be a core member of the Oncology Partnering team, overseeing Oncology partnering activities in Basel. This includes responsibility for pRED Oncology Partnering and, in coordination with the Global Head of Oncology, select Late Stage Partnering activities. The Oncology Basel Site Head will prepare and execute upon the oncology business development strategy, ensuring clear and consistent communication of deal prioritization and activities to senior management, and strong collaboration between PP and stakeholders. They will also closely coordinate with the Head of BD for pRED and other Basel Site Heads as a member of the “Basel BDLT” to support development of BDPLs, optimization of local PP processes and awareness of cross-TA pRED issues. Responsibilities will include, but will not be limited to, the following:“WANT”Deep understanding of pRED and PD Oncology R&D / Commercial strategies and BD prioritiesParticipate in and influence pRED Oncology strategy development.

Special emphasis on leading development of Oncology partnering WANTS and strategic areas of partnering interest for pRED.SPOC for senior pRED Oncology stakeholder management, including the External Innovation team and Oncology DTA LeadershipCoordination with Partnering, pRED Global Head of External Innovation, Oncology, and R&D Leadership Team on prioritization of pRED Oncology BD activitiesProvide support and mentorship for the Oncology Search & Evaluation Lead“FIND”Alongside Partnering deal team leads, the External Innovation team, Oncology TA Core, and pRED and PD Oncology R&D units, source high priority BD opportunities through scientific monitoring, competitive intelligence, networking, industry conferences and partnering eventsBuild and maintain relationships with external partners and venture capital community as a representative of Roche“GET” Support transition of identified opportunities to “GET” phase (Due Diligence and Negotiation).

Collaborate with Partnering Leadership and BDPLs to identify and set-up deal teams for success.Serve as Deal Sponsor to BDPLs through diligence and contract execution.

Coach, mentor and guide BDPLs to successful deal strategies, stakeholder interactions and internal/external positioning.Serve as an ambassador for Pharma Partnering internally and externally at industry events, engaging with executive management of potential partners.Candidate Profile and Characteristics:Strong scientific acumen, self-motivated drive, and genuine interest in following novel science and emerging industry trendsA positive, can-do attitude and collaborative spirit to engage across Partnering and Roche Genentech R&D unitsDemonstrated history of successfully leading teams or strategic corporate initiatives within a matrix organization across functions.

Influences through impact and collaboration without reporting lines. Excellent communication and presentation skills; highly capable of articulating the Roche value proposition and partnering interests to varied audiences (internal and external) including e.g. C-level and Board representatives of external companiesProvides Vision and Clarity, leads execution – determines and articulates clear strategies and objectives. Qualifications / Experience:Either an advanced degree in life sciences or medicine combined with an MBA or JD, or an equivalent combination of scientific and business education and experienceA scientific background in oncology and prior experience in leading oncology transactions is preferredStrong background in biotechnology and/or pharmaceutical drug development - 10 years minimum.

Relevant expertise in the designated therapeutic area required.

Significant business development strategy and negotiation experience - 5+ years minimum business development experience in the pharmaceutical or biotech industryHighly developed VACC leadership capabilitiesTrack record of establishing diverse and inclusive teams and of influencing transformation at company, industry and global levels.Full time
