Minimum qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in Statistics, Computer Science, Mathematics, Operations Research, or equivalent practical experience
  • Experience in pulling data from datasets (i.e. SQL) and applying data analysis to solve business problems

Preferred qualifications:
  • Experience using statistics to arrive at an answer, and translating analysis results into product recommendations
  • Experience with statistical software (e.g., R, Python, MATLAB, Pandas) and database languages (i.e. SQL)
  • Ability to work separately and collaborate cross-functionally with Engineering and Product teams
  • Understanding of system design, in order to be able to more effectively support the development of large scale systems

About The Job

The Commerce Policy Enforcement and Merchant Quality team has the critical job of protecting the user, merchants, and Google from any risks and malicious actors. Whether understanding and solving online content concerns, navigating within global legal frameworks, or writing and enforcing worldwide policies, the team is at the forefront of protecting users, building internet safety for online shoppers and partners.

As a Product Analyst in Commerce, you will tally up the numbers one minute and communicate your findings to a team leader the next. You will be able to view different angles of a product or business opportunity, and know how to connect the dots and interact with people in various roles and functions. You will work to effectively turn business questions into data analysis, and provide meaningful recommendations on strategy.

You will evaluate and improve Google’s Commerce products and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of engineers and analysts on a wide range of problems. With your analytical excellence and expertise with statistical methods of measuring quality, you will improve consumer products, understanding the behavior of our end-users, merchants, and partners. You will also develop, organize, and launch tests and projects across Engineering, Product Management, Sales, and Marketing.

Responsibilities

  • Work with large, complex datasets, solving difficult, non-routine analysis problems and applying advanced analytical methods.
  • Build and prototype analysis pipelines iteratively to provide insights at scale. Develop a comprehensive understanding of Google data structures and metrics, advocating for changes where needed for both product development and business activity.
  • Make business recommendations (e.g., cost-benefit, forecasting, experiment analysis, etc.) with effective presentation of findings at multiple levels of stakeholders through visual displays of quantitative information.
  • Research and develop analysis, forecasting, and optimization methods to improve the quality of Google’s user-facing products (e.g., ads quality, search quality, end-user behavioral modeling, and live experiments).
  • Interact cross-functionally with a wide variety of leaders and teams, and work with Engineers and Product Managers to identify opportunities for design and to assess improvements for Google products.
