Improving our ability to understand related weather and climate projections across different client segments, will support portfolio steering and build a more resilient future.

About the Role



This role will help improve the understanding between mid- and long-term seasonal and climatic forecasts and agricultural insurance risks.


  • Analyse forecasts for seasonal weather, climate, ocean oscillations and upper air patterns to identify datasets with a high predictive skill
  • Quantify the predictive skill and uncertainty depending on the forecast horizon.
  • Examine the interconnectivity between the forecasts and annual crop production in different geographical regions.
  • Develop a forecasting methodology and documentation of the relevant factors and its accuracy.
  • Collaborate with senior team members and cross-functional teams to improve and update methods.

The internship will be for 6 months, starting in Spring 2024.

About the Team

The applicant will be embedded within the Agriculture Product Centre, in our Specialty business unit, working in a multi-cultural team serving clients around the world. The job requires close collaboration with experts and leaders in our underwriting and actuarial department teams, all part of Swiss Re’s Specialty business.

About You



As a brilliant critical thinker, you’re a naturally detail-oriented professional. Your strong interpersonal skills make it easier for you to work within a team. Flexibility and curiosity play a role in your ability to learn new skills quickly.

  • Master student in natural science such as climatology, agronomy, geo sciences or engineering
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent organisational skills and self-starter demeanour.
  • Proficiency in statistic software (Python or R) as well as Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Eagerness to learn and adapt to dynamic insurance industry requirements.
  • Team player who thrives in an international work environment.
  • Reliable, open-minded, creative, and enthusiastic.
  • Excellent oral and written English. Other languages are a plus.
