UNICEF works in some of the world’s toughest places, to reach the world’s most disadvantaged children. To save their lives. To defend their rights. To help them fulfill their potential.

Across 190 countries and territories, we work for every child, everywhere, every day, to build a better world for everyone.

And we never give up.

For every child, hope

UNICEF works in 190 countries and territories to protect the rights of every child. It has spent over 70 years working to improve the lives of children and their families. UNICEF believes all children have a right to survive, thrive and fulfil their potential to the benefit of a better world.

The private sector is indispensable to achieving the SDGs, and to maximizing progress for children. UNICEF’s Private Fundraising and Partnerships Division (PFP) works with the private sector through UNICEF National Committees, regional and country offices, and HQ divisions to expand strategic engagement with the private sector and advocate for child rights. To maximize private sector engagement, PFP and Programme Division (PD) have led the ‘Business for Results’ (B4R) strategy that aims to expand UNICEF’s engagement with business as a programme strategy across the organization, with the necessary ambition, knowledge, skills and resources in place.

In this regard, as part of the Business for Results (B4R) strategy UNICEF is committed to provide the necessary tools and build the capacity across the organization to effectively engage with business. Focus is placed on fostering a more pronounced culture of knowledge-sharing where experiences, lessons, challenges, and good practices are captured, shared, and disseminated seamlessly across regional and country offices, National Committees and UNICEF divisions.

How can you make a difference?

The objective of this consultancy is to document, develop and finalize compelling in-depth case studies that capture the content and process of private sector engagement and include the journey, challenges/failures and successes in a country office integrating B4R into programming, B4R uptake examples and lessons learned from the countries to facilitate peer exchange.

MAIN TASKS
  • Interview colleagues, prepare/gather documentation or review existing write-ups related to the selected case studies.
  • Draft a plan of work that lists which case studies will be included, the focus and main message the case study conveys. This should be shared with the supervisor for comment before finalising.
  • Draft, redraft or finalize the selected case studies presenting them in different formats: written case study, short summary, ppt, video or podcast.
  • Liaise with corresponding focal points (PFP, other divisions, regional offices, COs and NatComs) to obtain required inputs and endorsement of the final versions of the case studies).
  • Submit deliverables in weekly tranches finalizing all case studies and other information materials.

DELIVERABLES

Ready-to-use Case Studies
  • Deliver between approximately twelve (12) ready-to-use case studies, (1-4 pages each), short summaries (around 300 words maximum per case study) and Power Point slides that will be used in B4R trainings, onboardings, webinars and other capacity building events and stored in the B4R global case study repository. The case studies should capture stories of initiatives, partnerships and journeys of country offices/staff engaging with business in different programme areas and different types of engagement, of how country offices are strategically pursuing business engagement (inclusion in CPDs). These case studies should aim to represent the realistic journey of staff and business in developing and nurturing private sector engagements, including partnerships across different sectors. They should therefore capture the considerations, re-considerations, achievements, challenges, and failures.
  • As the cases can also be captured in other formats like video or podcast, interview and use the videos as main assets, edit them, and then write up a short text version for the case page.
  • Synthesize and present infographics of B4R uptake by region, etc. – using analysis of existing case studies.
