Job Description

Global Public Affairs helps Novartis navigate and shape the external policy environment in support of our mission to re-imagine medicine, and help our medicines reach more patients, faster worldwide. In this context, our Policy team is growing with an exciting new role focused on the impact of geopolitics on life sciences innovation and our business.

You will be part of the Global Public Affairs Policy team, based in Basel, and work closely with both the broader Public Affairs community and key functions such as IP, Regulatory, Patient Access. You will be focused on identifying and shaping policy trends relevant to the competitiveness of the life sciences industry in general, and Novartis in particular, in our top geographies including new inter-dependencies and potential disruptions due to the evolving geopolitical environment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Support the Global Policy team in identifying key geopolitical trends and developments for the life sciences industry
  • Articulate how these trends affect Novartis specifically in light of our strategy, portfolio and footprint
  • Convene a cross-functional and global internal community of experts to inform our judgment and policy choices
  • Contribute to senior leaders briefings on key opportunities and risks from the evolving geopolitical environment
  • Translate internal policy decisions into viewpoints and global advocacy material to support implementation

Minimum Requirements

What you’ll bring to the role:
  • Advanced degree in field related to business or economics, PhD or MBA preferred.
  • Demonstrate a sharp understanding of the policies underpinning the success of the life sciences industry in one or more of the following: US, EU, China and Japan.
  • An extensive understanding of how macroeconomics and trade policies affect the fundamentals of our business.
  • Ideally you may have experience with Thinktank or Multilateral organisation eg OECD:
  • English proficiency, additional languages a plus
