Your Responsibilities:

>200 million. This is the number of patients impacted by our medicines within the Pharma division in 2021. BD&L and M&A continues to bend the curve of our business trajectory over the short, medium and long term through partnerships that bring medicines to patients, enhance revenue and earnings growth, broaden and deepen our pipeline through transformative innovation and optimize our portfolio through value enhancing divestments/out-licensing. Job Purpose:

In this role, you will take a key leadership role in deals by performing key financial analysis on large and complex transactions while providing clear guidance of significant internal projects within Global BD&L and M&A Finance

Your responsibilities include, but not limited to:
  • Provides independent first class financial support to all BD&L and M&A transactions including large and complex transactions. Takes lead role in making recommendations for improvement and implementation of key actions
  • Proactive in ensuring delivery, challenging and interpretation of financial input from key stakeholders in a timely manner to enable all key deadlines to be met throughout the evolution of each deal
  • Leads analysis of financial models underpinning deal terms; analyzes deal economics quickly to identify key value drivers and proactively looks at key sensitivities well in advance.
  • Specifically responsible for preparation of P&L’s, discounted cash flow analysis, sensitivity analysis and all financial slides for DLT/ECN. Makes clear recommendations on deal terms and internal presentations at all stages of a deal in order to maximize value to Novartis while minimizing risk
  • Trusted member of the Deal Team and actively involved in all deal negotiations with external parties; provides key financial inputs for contract negotiations
  • Constructively challenges deal terms which do not meet internal targets or are perceived to be inappropriate in terms of risk to Novartis
  • Leads and participates in various internal strategic projects

Minimum Requirements

What you’ll bring to the role:
  • University or post graduate degree in Finance, Accounting or similar subject, Recognized Financial qualification / MBA highly desirable;
  • Fluent in English (oral & writing) plus German (not mandatory)
  • Minimum of 10-15 years of experience in finance, accounting, and business operations.
  • 1-2 years of Finance transaction/deal experience is required, as well as a solid understanding of ac-counting principles and current IFRS as it relates to BD&L and M&A transactions.
  • Candidate must have demonstrated superior financial analysis capabilities.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, are needed due to coordination and dissemination of important and confidential information used to make investment decisions.
  • Candidate must have the ability to work with and diplomatically challenge high level personnel within Novartis, from other companies, and from external organizations retained to assist in the transactions.
  • Team leadership, project management, and negotiation skills are required.
  • Detailed knowledge of the pharmaceutical industry including development process, customers and competition is a plus.
  • Candidate must demonstrate initiative, creativity, and ability to work under pressure, often to tight deadlines
