Job Description

108,000 associates: our experienced talent, innovative technology and use of intelligence combine to help protect our colleagues, patients and the business. We have a noble mission and Global Security scans for threats globally and conducts fair and timely investigations across the whole of Novartis. Last year alone, 1.7 million falsified medicine doses were seized by law enforcement and health authorities as a result of over 200 Global Security investigations, helping to improve patient safety.

In the role of Global Security Investigations Manager, you will investigate internal and external security threats, which involve or could impact upon Novartis. These threats include cyber related threats, IP theft, extortion, blackmail, bribery, etc. You will investigate pharmaceutical crime and create the conditions to bring counterfeiters and illegal traders to justice, recover losses through legal action, improve patient safety, preserve Novartis’ reputation and create a tangible return on investment for the business. You will deliver professional cross-divisional/cross-functional Global Security investigations throughout the assigned region, representing the vanguard of Novartis’s Corporate Governance response to internal fraud, corruption and other alleged internal misconduct (e.g. SPEAKUP investigations). Drive proactive and reactive security initiatives across the region to protect Novartis associates, estate, products, proprietary information and reputation in order to preserve business innovation growth and productivity.

Society expects more of Novartis than ever before and our actions as an organization are under constant scrutiny. Global Security operates within the framework of Novartis Business Assurance & Advisory (NBAA). This function enables Novartis to be safe and successful in reimagining medicine, thereby playing a critical role in transforming our business into a leading focused medicines company. We believe in the best of people – that our associates make decisions and act with the interests of our patients at heart. Yet in doing business, every day Novartis is exposed to risks that have the potential to compromise our success. Understanding where we have opportunities to improve and where to go to raise concerns is essential in delivering on Novartis’ transformation agenda.

As NBAA, we can do more to help Novartis on its journey to reach the top than as individual functions. Together Global Security (GS) and Internal Audit (IA) are leveraging resources and data, providing insights and protection, and acting as cultural change agents. We offer independent assurance and advice to the business, management and the Board, paving the way for our organization to confidently take bold decisions, challenge the status quo, and make a fundamental difference to the way we operate.

Your responsibilities include, but not limited to:
  • Lead impartial, fact-based Corporate investigations into “high-risk” allegations of internal misconduct, including policy violations and/or criminal wrongdoing - as assigned by the SPEAKUP Office - across all business functions and at all levels of seniority.

Close collaboration with business stakeholders (e.g. Group Legal, QA, TechOps, Public Affairs) and relevant competent authorities for enforcement action.

  • Provide professional security advice and guidance across a broad range of security issues, at all levels of the business within the assigned region.
  • Champion professional investigation training in Novartis and deliver modular training courses using the proprietary Global Security investigation training syllabus (i.e. for associates assigned SPEAKUP cases).
  • Mentor and advise business managers at all levels in the execution of SPEAKUP investigations and reporting subsequent findings.
  • Drive thought-leadership across industry to position Global Security as best-in-class in all core areas and expand established networks across a range of competent authorities.
  • Promote the department in line with the approved Global Security strategy, representing Global Security as a dependable, authentic business partner that provides essential, value-added, services.
  • Executive protection for senior leadership as needed.
