The GMD Cycloconverter Drive Control Software Specialist serves as the technical expert for our anchor product, Gearless Mill Drive (GMD), specifically focusing on the application software aspect. The GMD application is developed and manufactured within our local business line GMD, under the Process Industries division.

In this role, your responsibilities will include bridging operational requirements, product management, and R&D to ensure the development of the grinding drive control platform towards increased standardization in GMD software and parametrization. You will also work towards improving efficiency for our field personnel through the use of enhanced engineering tools and support our journey towards a new generation of drive control platform.

The GMD Cycloconverter Software Specialist will report to the GMD System engineering manager and functionally to the GMD Product Manager.

Your responsibilities
  • Take ownership of the drive controller (AC800PEC) software lifecycle.
  • Act as the receiving organization for new software releases from the R&D department, ensuring quality prior to official release.
  • As PEC power user, conduct independent software tests for new functionalities at the simulator test stand prior to an official software release.
  • Manage and coordinate bug reporting and feature requests. Oversee the quality of the PEC software by documenting and addressing quality issues and developing necessary repositories of customer project files.
  • Drive standardization of GMD parametrization and provide input to the R&D team to reduce complexity
  • Issue and maintain PEC software parameter templates for the different converter topologies
  • Develop, maintain and provide PEC user training for GMD engineering teams globally.
  • Support R&D in shaping the roadmap for the next generation of the GMD drive control platform.
  • Provide technical expertise and support to site personnel, assisting with troubleshooting, maintenance, and addressing customer inquiries.
  • Manage software backups and software revisions of the GMD installed base.
Your background
  • Degree in electrical engineering
  • Experience in process control and in software design (including MATLAB / Simulink / Codesys)
  • Proven experience as an electrical engineer, product specialist or in a similar technical role, preferably within the power electronics sector.
  • A collaborative, solution-focused approach with effective communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, enabling seamless collaboration across departments and with customers.
  • Attention to detail, ensuring product conformity, accurate technical documentation, and adherence to quality standard. Education in compiling product documentation (technical writer) is a plus.
  • Fluency in English is required. Proficiency in other languages is a plus.
