Head of Commercial, Swiss Affiliate

About the role

The Head of Commercial (HC) MS, SMA and rare diseases is a member of the Swiss Affiliate leadership team, reports to the General Manager and is the senior leader for the commercial business at the country level, with overall responsibility for quarterly and annual sales and optimally managing commercial operational expenses for Switzerland. The HC main responsibility is to lead and motivate his/her marketing and sales team to drive strong sales growth and achieve the agreed performance goals for Biogen’s new launches and in-line brands in neurology.

In this role, the incumbent leads a sales, marketing, and digital team of ~10 persons, setting clear direction and goals and striving to achieve best in industry performance levels. The HC also ensures professional development of his/her staff and the hiring and retention of capable team members for the Biogen talent pool. In addition to these broad responsibilities, the HC is also the commercial management face of Biogen with external stakeholders..

What You’ll Do

  • Guarantee Sales & Marketing Planning, Implementation & Tracking
    • Lead the brand strategic and tactical planning process for the affiliate in alignment with the global and regional teams and lead the portfolio management of our brands to deliver an enhanced value to HCPs and patients
    • Lead the development and implementation of national sales strategy in line with global/regional strategy and guidelines and drive implementation of the omnichannel customer engagement model based on customer preferences and impact
    • Lead, drive and inspire preparation of new product/digital service launches in the country and ensure high focus on the launch across commercial and other functions
    • Initiate and support collaboration to leverage, share and develop tactics, content and materials across geographies and functions
    • Responsible for therapeutic brands 1 year and LRP forecasts
    • Establishes sales goals and drives performance management with focus on patient share, revenue and unit sales and marketing budgets and key operational metrics
    • Oversee and optimally manage budgets for brand and portfolio marketing/sales fees/ digital services, travel/hospitality and sponsorships
  • Stakeholder Engagement (internal & external)
    • Build key external customer relationships with Neurologists, Neurology Clinics, Specialist-Nurses, PAGs and other Key Stakeholders
    • Drive a high-performance culture by ensuring clear roles and goals with regular assessment of achievement and necessary redirections
    • Develop and leverages strong internal and external business relationships to enhance both brand advocacy, portfolio and Biogen’s image in MS, SMA and rare diseases
    • Work collaboratively and in x-functional alignment with Medical, Market Access and EA Managers to clearly define and implement the overall company strategy and operations
    • Collaborate and align with the regional and global commercial functions to ensure alignment and optimization of country operations
    • Oversee securing optimal pricing approvals and public/private payer reimbursement for products marketed by Biogen
  • Developing staff and building high-performing team
    • Inspire and lead the development of high performing teams by leveraging team members strengths and identifying areas of development
    • Develop both knowledge and skills to ensure that the teams have the capabilities needed to have a significant business impact
    • Drive well trusted, x-functional collaboration, accountability, and empowerment of team members in alignment with the Biogen culture
    • Lead, drive and empower sales & marketing teams by coaching, fostering communication and collaboration of internal staff, hybrid staff and field-based staff
    • Effective performance review for all team members with goal setting, quarterly review and year end appraisals to identify, develop and retain top talent
    • Oversee and enforce all teams to meet objectives in full compliance with national law, legislation and regulatory framework
  • Quality, Safety Risk-Management, Regulatory Affairs, Clinical Operations:
    • Senior management has the ultimate responsibility to ensure an effective pharmaceutical quality system is in place to achieve the quality objectives
    • Ensure that roles, responsibilities, and authorities are defined, communicated, and implemented throughout the company.

Qualifications
  • University Degree required- preferably in economics, business, medicine, or a life science related discipline
  • Advanced graduate degree or MBA in related fields strongly preferred
  • Experience in the pharmaceutical industry (min. 10 years) which ideally consists of
    • Sales and Marketing experience preferably at local and regional/global level
    • Proven on the ground experience in the market is key, as well as knowledge/ understanding of the market, regulatory and healthcare environment
    • Strong track record of inspiring leadership and leading high-performing teams
  • Digital savviness and design and effective execution of omnichannel customer communication plans
  • Proficiency in English
  • Proficiency in German or French and good knowledge of the other language an asset
  • Credible and effective communicator
  • Proven strategic aptitude and ability
  • Track record of delivering results
  • Experience to work in a matrix and collaborate with teams both cross functionally and across geographies
